HP TouchPad fire sale spurs online sell out, brick-and-mortars may still carry stock

It's the same old story of genius recognized only after death, and thus is the fate of webOS. If you were amongst the opportunistic hordes scavenging the interwebs for last night's bargain bin $99 HP TouchPad announcement, chances are you're fresh outta luck. The L.A. Times is reporting widespread online store sell outs for the recently abandoned and heavily discounted 16GB and 32GB slates. While HP's own site and the biggie online retail outfits, like Circuit City and Walmart, have all but sold out of their web inventory, Amazon's third party sellers still have the tablets on offer - just at non-discounted prices.

Happy Owl Studio Wallet for iPad 2

Happy Owl Studio Wallet for iPad 2

Happy Owl Studio has a line of cases that incorporate  an iPad 2 frame into a book-style case.  Half the case has a zipper compartment that has room inside for your phone, credit cards, pens, and other essentials.  The back half of the case holds the iPad 2 in a frame that leaves ports and buttons open; even the back camera has a cutout.  The Wallet for iPad 2 is their unisex design, and it's available only in black.  They don't specify the material used, so I'll assume that means it's artificial leather.  The case can also be used as a horizontal stand for viewing and as a typing stand (shown).

HP TouchPad receives massive price cut

HP TouchPad receives massive price cut

HP may have decided to terminate its webOS devices but that doesn't mean existing tablets that have already been built will magically disappear. And since they won't be selling anymore webOS tablets in the future, they've decided to get rid of the existing tablets the fastest way they know how to (well, second fastest if you include incinerating them all) - by having a fire sale. In a memo that was sent out to HP affiliates today, the company has announced that the price of the TouchPad tablet will be reduced by 70-75%.

Samsung Epic Touch 4G Launching on Sprint September 9th?

An unsubstantiated report coming out of SprintFeed claims that Sprint could be among the first of the US carriers to launch the Samsung Galaxy S II. Under the name Epic Touch 4G, we could be seeing the followup to last year’s Epic 4G as early as September 9th. The timing matches up with previous whispers about the launch of the Galaxy S II in the States, but the date remains a rumor for now.

More Claims of Evidence Tampering in Samsung v. Apple Case

More Claims of Evidence Tampering in Samsung v. Apple Case

As Apple files its case against Samsung in the Netherlands, claims of tampered visual evidence are again making the rounds around the blogosphere. This time the Samsung Galaxy S looks to be the victim of resizing, making the phone appear more similar to the iPhone 3GS at first glance. While there are some striking visual similarities between the two smartphones, in reality the Galaxy S is both longer and wider than the iPhone. Accusations of misleading visual evidence first arose with Apple’s suit in Germany over the Galaxy Tab 10.1, a case based solely on the outward appearance of Samsung’s tablet in comparison to the iPad.

It has undergone a redesign, but at the same time it managed to keep the classic Porsche look, but overall it appears that car looks a lot more sleek, not to mention with the changes in its tail lights which are narrower, giving it a slightly more edgy look.

Glucose sensor glows for long-term monitoring

It goes without saying that with technology advancing by leaps and bounds these days, we will be getting medical implants in a few hundred different ways to help us live longer and better. Researchers at the Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo have even come up with a new fluorescent fiber sensor that intends to pave the way for long-term in vivo continuous glucose monitoring. The sensor is said to be able to overcome current limitations that rely on current enzyme-based implanted glucose sensors, which are plagued by poor accuracy, stability and constantly require the use of oxygen.

Smart MIMAS transfers medical images to Android tablet and smartphones

Smart MIMAS transfers medical images to Android tablet and smartphones

KDDI Labs of Japan has developed the Smart MIMAS system that was meant for use in hospitals, where it allows medical images to be transferred and viewed on both Android tablets and smartphones. These images can be sent over in a secure manner to specialists regardless of where they are – of course, this would require a permanent Internet connection. This enables the medical specialists to be on-call in case of an emergency, where they will then be able to administer quick and accurate instructions to staff at the hospital.

Cell phone radiation could make you sterile according to studies

You may want to put down your cell phone if you're planning on having kids anytime soon. According to an article in the latest Journal of Andrology, recent reports have suggested there is a “possible link between cell phone use and semen quality.” The author of the article, Dr. Sandro La Vignera from the University of Catania, refers to one 2008 report which studied 361 men in an infertility clinic, which concluded that there was a direct link to the “duration of cellular phone possession” and decreased semen quality.

. If you're anything like me, you can't get enough of MIUI. It's polished good looks and big bright icons are impossible to get out of your head (like that hot cashier at Walmart). Only problem is, the ROM is only available on a rooted devices. Since I have yet to take that plunge, I've resorted to other methods. Take this this beautifully styled MIUI homescreen replacement on XDA for instance.

CNET: RIM in talks to squeeze out BlackBerry music service

Those "sources with knowledge" are at it again, this time stirring the pot over a possible BlackBerry-branded music service. According to bothCNET and Reuters, said sources revealed that RIM is in negotiations with "the four largest record companies" to launch a service that would "run on top of BlackBerry Messenger." What that means, exactly, is anyone's guess at the moment, but word is the mobile phone maker has already signed one label, and is close to snagging two more. Could this be the move RIM needs to shake off its enterprise-only reputation.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Verizon 4G LTE Review

Back in December of last year, I had the opportunity to review Samsung's first Android tablet, the Galaxy Tab 7″. I liked it well enough, but ended my review saying that I really wanted an iPad sized Android tablet because a 10″ screen is the sweet spot for me. Since that time I've reviewed a handful of other Android tablets, both big (iPad sized) and small. The Motorola Xoom running Honeycomb came the closest to making me want to shell out my own cash for one, but I kept dragging my feet on making the purchase.

Industry rumblings have suggested that Google wants to get the next version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, out to handsets by October for competitive reasons. As has been the standard over the past few years, it is expected a flagship device will launch alongside the new operating system. Word out of Korea is that the so-called “Nexus Prime” is indeed on track for an October release. The report from Electronic Times corroborates some previously rumored specs and throws a few more into the equation with mention of a 4.5-inch 720p Super AMOLED HD display and 1.5GHz processor.

Reportedly set to debut in Frankfurt later this year, the Jeep Grand Cherokee-based SUV will be built at Chrysler's Jefferson North assembly plant in Detroit. That's right, an Italian-blooded sport-ute is set to be pieced together right here in the Motor City. Logitech G300 mouse delivers gaming friendly features on the cheap

Logitech isn't exactly new to the gaming peripheral scene, but the company knows its strength lies not in pleasing hardcore FPS fans, it's in delivering solid consumer products. The G300 isn't a gaming mouse for the twitchy virtual gun slingers out there, it's for folks that fire up the occasional shooter, but want better performance than they get out of the pointer packed with their PC. The nine programmable buttons and 2,500dpi laser aren't jaw-dropping, but they're certainly respectable for only $40. It does pack one interesting feature - gaming profiles that are stored on the mouse's internal memory.

Who says that video games are child's play. Adults, too, enjoy their fair share of Mario. Well, boys in the military who grew up playing video games might have something else to cheer about when it comes to the latest gizmos and gadgets – we're talking about the once humble video game controller helping our men in uniform operate real-life weapons against flesh-and-blood adversaries. That's right, it is extremely hard to tell military-grade game controllers from their civilian counterparts at the moment, as these will enable soldiers to operate cameras, fly unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and even fire remote-controlled machine guns.

2012 Chevrolet Orlando

Let's do a quick recap of famous people, places and things that bear the name Orlando. There is the hunky Hollywood star Orlando Bloom, the not-so-hunky actor Tony Orlando, and there was even a 1992 chick-flick entitled, you guessed it, Orlando. While the name doesn't really imply anything uniquely Canadian, the new 2012 Chevrolet Orlando does because this is one Orlando that's only available in Canada, at least within the confines of North America. Even though the 2012 Chevrolet Orlando isn't available in the U.S., it has been released worldwide under General Motors' global strategy.
