And it certainly should, now that Apple has officially introduced the new iPhone 5, which will be available starting September 21. According to The Korea Times, an unnamed Samsung official has confirmed that the South Korean company is planning to announce the new handset - referred to as the Galaxy S 4 - at MWC 2013, in February, and launch it in March the latest.

Google Maps for Android update brings your full location search history to handhelds

Google Maps for Android update brings your full location search history to handhelds

While Google Maps may have found itself on the outside looking in on the just-released iOS 6, it's got a fresh update for Android devices that makes sure any locations you've searched are right at your fingertips. Rolling out now in Google Play, it includes results from your search and directions history (whether on your phone or on a PC that you were logged in to) whenever you start a new search, and in the search or directions tab under My Places. The other tweak noted in the changelog is the ability to zoom with just one finger — double tap the map then hold down your finger and slide.

Windows Phone companion surfaces for Windows 8, could take over syncing duties

It's tough to ignore that the Zune era at Microsoft is quickly winding to a close. That doesn't mean you'll necessarily be out of options for syncing a Windows Phone's contents by the time the Zune desktop app fades away, however. A tip to The Verge has shown a companion app for Windows 8 users that will reportedly load the first time a Windows Phone 8 device syncs up, giving a fully Metro-friendly place to transfer any media. Windows 7 would get its own parallel, just in case some of us aren't willing or able to upgrade our PCs in concert.

Box Accelerator may triple cloud upload speeds versus its rivals, comes to syncing apps soon (video)

Upstream speeds are frequently the bottlenecks for cloud storage: an entire company might be held back waiting for that last presentation video to go online before the big meeting. Box wants much more parity through Accelerator, a custom infrastructure that should make uploads hum. It uses Amazon's EC2 for help, but the real magic comes through a mix of Box's own network and special prioritization. Accelerator goes beyond just location to factor in the browser, OS and other criteria that could affect a data packet's journey.

If you're following along, you no doubt saw every review and article related to this phone (AAPL), so here's an honest bit of first impressions from someone who kind of likes his iPhones…

To start with, it really is light. Like light. It doesn't feel cheap at all, but between the increase in the device's footprint, and the fact that it's also 20% thinner, it feels like one quality smartphone.

Oppo continues its legacy with two new top end Blu-ray players

Regarded as the best of the best when it comes to disc players, Oppo has two new ones that can easily handle any disc you've got. Physical media isn't the only game in town, obviously, so in addition to Netflix, Vudu and local file support like MKV, Oppo has stepped it up even further by adding an HDMI port in front for use as an MHL input. This allows you to leverage the high-end Oppo's processing to do wonders on content stored on your portable or other MHL source. Speaking of video processing, both the new guys use Marvell's Qdeo video processor and are capable of doing both 2D-to-3D conversion as well as up-scaling to 4K.

Apple's New Map App Looks Catastrophic

Apple's New Map App Looks Catastrophic

Apple's newest map app in iOS 6, which the company replaced from the default Google Maps, has been getting a lot of flak lately. Fox News calls the TomTom-developed Maps application an “unsightly blemish on what is otherwise a beautiful OS,” adding that although it performs gorgeously, the software “takes multiple giant leaps backwards compared to Google Maps.”. For one, it has an inefficient search function. Try searching for a Chinese restaurant located a few hundred feet away and it would yield a result thousands of miles away.

Yep, one more Leica camera to tell you about from this year's Photokina show floor. It's the V-Lux 4 - a big new superzoom addition to the company's line. Though its got a similar name to the V-Lux 40, the camera's body is a good deal larger - closer in size and shape to a small DSLR, but still reasonably lightweight. As with the smaller model, the V-Lux 4 features an all black design, with a bright red Leica logo on the front - in this case, just next to the curving textured handle. Also on top is a pop-out flash that you trigger with a devoted button.

Mazda is slowly but surely wiping its smiley Nagare design language from the faces of its automobiles, and it appears that the seven-passenger CX-9 is the next to get the bolder Kodo-influenced treatment. The 2013 CX-9 you see here will officially bow at the Australian International Motor Show in mid-October, but Mazda has released a few preliminary images and details regarding the big CUV's refresh. Now, as much as we like the design of the new CX-5 crossover and Mazda6 sedan, we aren't quite sure if we love the way the new Kodo lines flow onto the CX-9's larger body.

ZTE's handset sport a 4-inch WVGA display, an 8-megapixel rear camera and runs a vanilla version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich atop a single-core CPU clocked at 1.4GHz.

Land Rover considering sub-Evoque range

Land Rover considering sub-Evoque range

Word from an Automotive News Europe report is that Land Rover may build a sub-Evoque compact SUV. According to the report, Design Director Gerry McGovern told ANE, "Certainly, I think we can go smaller," continuing, "In a world focusing on sustainability you could argue that smaller and lighter is the way to go.". While that is far from confirmation of any upcoming product, it does point to the fact that Land Rover is aware of not only environmental concerns, but to the prevalence of increasingly compact luxury CUVs like the Audi Q1, and BMW X1.
It also hints to awareness regarding price.

We're not sure how many of you guys actually use docks with your iPhone when charging, or you just lie them flat on the table, but for those who do use docks and you're wondering if Apple might be making one themselves for the iPhone 5, well you might be disappointed. In an email apparently sent by Phil Schiller, Apple's SVP of Marketing, he stated that there were no plans to introduce a dock for the iPhone 5. Apparently people who want to dock their iPhones already do so via third-party devices like speaker docks or clock systems.

LG adds voice control to its washing machine management smartphone app

LG isn't standing still and letting its arch rival, Samsung, do all the work in the field of smartphone-controlled home appliances. LG already has an app which lets you control its washing machines with your device. Sadly though, as with Samsung's software, this is only available in the both companies' home market of South Korea. Today LG announced that it's taking its app one step further, by building voice control into it. So not only will you be able to control your LG Tromm washing machine with your phone, you'll even be able to (literally) tell it what to do. Granted, you'll be speaking into your handset, and not at the machine.

Samsung: Galaxy S IV March 2013 rumors are not true

We doubt this will significantly dampen rumors of a Samsung Galaxy S IV announcement in March of next year, but any optimists who were expecting an official confirmation six months in advance won't be getting one. Our grasp of Korean isn't the best, but here's a tweet from the company's official Korean account indicating rumors of a Galaxy S successor simply aren't true. Of course, with the kinds of sales the line has seen to date it seems like a reasonable assumption that Samsung will keep cranking them out as long as the courts will let it for the foreseeable future, so it's certainly more a question of when, than if.
