2014 Chevrolet Camaro to be available with LS7 V8?

Just when we thought that the horsepower battle between Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro had reached its zenith with the 662-horsepower Shelby GT500, it appears that Chevrolet won't go down without a fight. Based on an official-looking Vehicle Identification Number decoder (click the above image to enlarge) that Camaro5 managed to get its hands on, the 2014 Camaro might be getting ready to receive a few tweaks under the hood. The biggest news is that an LS7 V8 engine looks to be joining the Camaro family for the 2014 model year.

EU auto insurers can no longer use gender to calculate premiums

EU auto insurers can no longer use gender to calculate premiums

The European Union's Gender Directive is officially in effect. Last year, the EU Court of Justice ruled that "differences in insurance pricing based purely on a person's sex are discriminatory." That means that insurance companies can't factor gender into their premium tables, so as of December 21, 2012 the rates that EU residents pay for different types of insurance products will change – the expected trend for car insurance is that women's rates will go up while men's rates go down. The courtroom argument is that the varying rates for men and women are arbitrary.

Chevy says current Impala to live on through 2014

We've had no lack of information regarding the new 2014 Chevrolet Impala so far; we know that it will sticker for about $27k to start, that it will offer I4, V6 and hybrid powerplants and that it will go on sale in Spring 2013. We also now know that the Impala will have some very closely related competition, at least for a little while.

2012 Nissan Titan

Revisiting "The Other Truck". Of all the segments in the American vehicle market, the full-size truck market has proven the most difficult to crack for foreign automakers. Blame the Chicken Tax, dyed-in-the-wool brand fanatics, decades of buying tradition or all three, but truck buyers have barely given Toyota and Nissan a fraction of the sales ladled onto Ford, Chevrolet and Ram. In fact, last year, Toyota saw just 82,908 Tundra units roll off of dealer lots.

Snappgrip for iPhone adds a camera grip to your smartphone

Snappgrip for iPhone adds a camera grip to your smartphone

While our smartphones are no doubt more than capable of replacing the regular point and shoot cameras, one of the drawbacks is that sometimes our devices are so thin that getting a good grip on it might be tricky. This isn't really an issue if you just want to snag a quick photo, but for photographers trying to capture a serious shot with their phones, the lack of a dedicated shutter button and lack of grip could be an issue. If you're looking to take your smartphone photography to the next level, then perhaps the snappgrip iPhone case might be worth taking a look at.

ZTE U887 with 5″ display leaked

ZTE U887 with 5″ display leaked

The phablet trend has certainly kicked off and it looks like it could be here to stay, and for those shopping on a budget and want to own such a device, ZTE might have something up their sleeves. Thanks to a leak by China's TENAA (via GizChina), we now have a glimpse of ZTE's 5" offering in the form of the U887. It does not have the most amazing specs, but we guess the highlight here would be its presumably affordable price tag and the large screen. So what can customers look forward to then. Well for starters the U887 is expected to sport a 5x400×800 display, not the highest of resolutions but it should get the job done.

Rhapsody extends carrier billing to AT&T subscribers

Rhapsody extends carrier billing to AT&T subscribers

There are several music streaming options out there today, such as Rhapsody, Rdio, Spotify, and MOG, but it looks like Rhapsody could be getting one leg up on the competition as they have announced that they will be extending their carrier billing feature to AT&T subscribers. At the moment if you're a Verizon subscriber, Rhapsody will allow users to use the carrier billing feature, but now it looks like AT&T customers will be able to get in on the action as well.

Lenovo K860i Smartphone Is An Update

Lenovo K860i Smartphone Is An Update

Lenovo is far more famous for their range of notebooks and Ultrabooks, but this does not mean that they do not have forays into different lines of consumer electronics, and the smartphone is one of them. Well, we do know that Lenovo did roll out the Lenovo K860 in the past, but just like notebooks, an update or hardware refresh is in store, and the K860i would be the model of choice to receive some bumps up in the pecking order. Nothing groundbreaking, but reassuring at the very least.

Wright Brothers' First Flight Photograph Was Actually The Photographer's First

Wright Brothers' First Flight Photograph Was Actually The Photographer's First

December 17th was a historic day for America. About 109 years ago, in the year 1903, John Thomas Daniels Jr. shot the iconic photograph of the Wright brothers's first flight. History remembers Daniels as an “amateur photographer,” a man who was so excited to see the Wright Flyer fly for the first time, that he almost forgot to squeeze the bulb of the Gundlach Korona 5x7-inch glass plate view camera, which was owned by Wright brothers.
But as noted by PetaPixel, the notion that Daniels was an amateur photographer is really an understatement. That's because Daniels had never seen a camera before December 17th, 1903.

POC's Receptor BUG Helmets Have The Power Of Beats By Dre In Them

Bike riding can be considered a pretty active activity when compared to an activity like watching all-day marathons of The Twilight Zone. What makes the experience better is being able to listen to your favorite tunes, although wearing a helmet and earbuds at the same time can get a little tricky. Helmets with built-in headphones aren't exactly a new piece of tech, but this helmet by POC that have Beats By Dre in them certainly are. POC's upcoming Receptor BUG Helmets are exactly what they look like: helmets that have Beats By Dre fused into them.

How Carfax has cornered the market on car history reports

How Carfax has cornered the market on car history reports

Ever wonder why Carfax seems to be the only company you ever hear about that offers vehicle history reports. According to an Automotive News report, Carfax has created undeniable brand cachet, and it has also arranged some deals that make it difficult for the competition to gain footing. Marketing agreements, inked with sites like AutoTrader.com and Cars.com, mean that dealers who would like to advertise on these sites are forced to use Carfax instead of less expensive competitors. AutoCheck, from Experian Automotive Inc, provides a similar service, and Cars.com allows for the use of AutoCheck, causing a battle between it and Carfax.

Instagram responds to its updated terms of service and privacy policy

Yesterday we reported that Instagram had updated its terms of service along with its privacy policy, and due to the choice of wording, many users of Instagram had interpreted the updated policies to mean that the company basically had the right to sell your photographs to advertisers without your explicit permission. Naturally this resulted in a lot of outrage amongst Instagram users, some of whom suggested abandoning the service and perhaps look for an alternative, such as Flickr or even Twitter.

Watch Wired go hands-on with Tesla Model S 4.0

Our friends at Wired recently got their hands on the latest software release for the Tesla Model S. The 4.0 release adds a few interesting bits of functionality to the EV, including voice control for the navigation and telephone systems as well as Slacker Radio. Tesla employed Google voice-recognition software for the Model S, and Wired says the system is "far easier and more intuitive than most." High praise. The update also adds another level of customization to the EV's steering wheel controls.
