Apple pulls out of EPEAT green registration, may not be able to sell computers to federal agencies

Apple has withdrawn all its laptop and desktop computers from the EPEAT environmental rating system, including older MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models. According to iFixit, who recently tore down a MacBook Pro and its retina screen, that's likely related to a design direction favoring smaller, lighter notebooks and longer battery life. Doing so required them to glue the cells to the aluminum shell, making it impossible to recycle the case and other parts - iFixit couldn't pull the batteries out without spilling the (highly toxic) battery guts all over.

ITU wants to bring smartphone makers to peace talks, hash out patent wars

The United Nations defines the stereotype of a peace broker, so it's not that far-fetched to hear that its International Telecommunication Union (ITU) wing is hoping to step in and cool down the rapidly escalating patent world war. The organization plans to convene a Patent Roundtable on October 10th - in neutral Geneva, Switzerland, of course - to have smartphone makers, governments and standards groups try and resolve some of their differences. Those mostly concerned about Apple's actions won't be happy with the focus of the sit-down, however.

Seinfeld teases new car show with other comedians

As it turns out, making a successful television show about cars is more difficult than it looks. Just ask Adam Carolla or the kids from the U.S. version of Top Gear. As we recently heard, Jerry Seinfeld has decided he should give the premise a go with Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, a new web series. If the concept sounds dull, brace yourself for the pointless teaser video below. True to its name, the show looks to feature comedy names like Ricky Gervais, Larry David, Michael Richards and Alec Baldwin all riding along with Seinfeld in some of his more interesting vehicles.

The world's largest online retailer is said to have partnered with Foxconn to manufacture the handset for it. There are no other details available at the moment but if Amazon plans to compete with iPhone their phone has to be high-end, unlike the Kindle Fire, which was a budget offering.

Apple aware of corrupt apps issue, working on a fix

Earlier this morning, reports started circulating that the App Store was pushing corrupt binaries to iOS and Mac users, resulting in constant crashes of the affected apps. Marco Arment, of Instapaper fame, was one of the first to notice and very vocal — bringing the issue to the attention of many in the media and at Apple. The list of affected apps is pretty staggering, including such high profile titles as Angry Birds Space, Yahoo. Search, Google Reader and, of course, Instapaper. The number of developers affected now tops 115, so we'd hold off on those updates.

Mini Takes The States: Brits re-invade Washington on 200th anniversary of War of 1812

Only a German-owned British brand could storm Washington D.C. on the Fourth of July and be greeted with waves, grins and the occasional thumbs up. Minis just make people smile.
More than 300 Mini models of all shapes, sizes and years began the first leg of the 11-day Mini Takes the States 2012 campaign on America's birthday, stopping in Philadelphia and then going on to take in the fireworks in the nation's capital.

In the ten years Mini has been back in America, the brand has continued to grow as a cult of followers. And the expansion is continuing with gusto as more and more buyers opt for the fun, racy, British styling of the cars.

Apple App Store's first spam sending app pulled

After being reported for pushing out corrupted updates, it looks like the Apple App Store is in the news again. According to reports online, “Find and Call”, the first ever spam-sending app managed to make its way onto the Apple App store. The app reportedly uploads all of a user's contacts to a remote server and then sends a text message and email to every contact in his/her phonebook. Ouch.
The app also made it into the Google Play Store – no surprise there, since Google doesn't screen what goes on it but this is the first time that a malicious app has managed to slip through Apple's strict screening policies.

Researchers capture a single atom's shadow, has implications for quantum computers

A very small atom can cast a very large shadow. Well, not literally, but figuratively. Researchers at Griffith University have managed to snap the first image of a single atom's shadow and, while the dark spot may be physically small, the implications for the field of quantum computing are huge. The team of scientists blasted a Ytterbium atom suspended in air with a laser beam. Using a Fresnel lens, they were able to snap a photograph of the dark spot left in the atom's wake as the laser passed over it. The practical applications could improve the efficiency of quantum computers, where light is often used to transfer information.

New bumpers, sills, badging, Xenon headlights, rear diffuser, matte black trim and exhaust finishers are among the kit, capped at the back by a spoiler that calls to mind the TT RS. The package sits 10 millimeters lower on the S Line suspension on black, 19-inch Rotor wheels.
