According to CVPCS, the developer behind the VLC Android app, the VLC media player for Android is already available for download albeit in pre-alpha state. Hit past the break for the download links and more info.

Recently, an iOS version of the VLC media player was introduced but was subsequently pulled from the app store since it's an open source software and therefore cannot be offered by Apple's proprietary app store, as sources quoted.

Smartphone owners say security is a concern, but few take precautions

While smartphone owners say they are concerned about security threats, few actually do anything to secure their devices according to new data from The NPD Group. Focusing on owners of Apple's iPhone and various Android phones, NPD's “Emerging Technology Trends: Mobile Security” report found that security concerns are common among smartphone users. For example, 43% of users are concerned with unknowingly having their activities monitored and 42% are worried about hackers accessing personal files or information on their devices.

Honda unveils 2012 CBR1000RR Fireblade

It's been 20 years since Honda first unleashed the CBR900RR on the unsuspecting world, and to mark the occasion, the manufacturer has unveiled the 2012 CBR1000RR Fireblade at the Endurance World Championship at Le Mans and the 2011 World Superbike Championship in Imola, Italy. The new bike packs a revised fairing, complete with a fresh nose and reworked tail section, but the really fun bits are still under the plastic. Honda has implemented an all-new rear shock design with dual-tubes that supposedly offer a smoother and faster response over the old hardware. Up front, the CBR1000RR works with 43-millimeter telescopic front forks.

Facebook unveils revamped ‘Timeline' profile page, teams with Spotify and Netflix [video]

During the F8 conference on Thursday, Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg took the stage to introduce a host of new features that are rolling out to the social network. The major change is called “Timeline” and it takes advantage of existing pictures and status updates to create a more visual experience of “who you are.” As you scroll down your personal timeline, you'll be able to view pictures and updates throughout the years. There is a new option in the upper right-hand side of your profile to quickly skip to a year in time too, and many of the features are also available on Facebook's mobile applications.

HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio - we go ears-on (video)

Guess who's back. HTC let us play with the new and improved Sensation XE in London last night and we even managed to find a secluded spot to bop our heads to the integrated Beats Audio and packaged YourBeats headphones. The XE is very similar to the original 4.3-inch flagship Sensation in terms of hardware, except there's a 300MHz clock-speed bump to 1.5GHz, a slightly larger 1750mAh battery and also a packaged 16GB (instead of 8GB) microSD card. But aside from that, we expect it'll be the audio credentials and related marketing hype that will attract most attention when the device reaches shelves later this month.

Google testing MVNO waters, preparing to battle carriers

Google testing MVNO waters, preparing to battle carriers

Google may be preparing to take its mobile efforts to the next level as it tests a Google-branded MVNO in Spain. Unconfirmed reports accompanied by photos of a Google SIM card and a Nexus S running on a “Google_Es” network suggest that Google is toying with the idea of becoming a Mobile Virtual Network Operator, or a company that provides cellular service by leasing capacity from existing wireless carriers and piggybacking on their networks. The photos suggest that testing is in the late stages as Google has already printed branded SIM cards, which have reportedly been delivered to Google Spain employees for testing.

Samsung GALAXY S II (AT&T) hands-on

We just parted ways with the FedEx delivery man and ripped open the box to find Samsung's latest flagship device, the GALAXY S II. This time around, however, we have AT&T's version of the phone as opposed to the European model, and there are actually some pretty big differences between the two. For starters, the European GALAXY S II was one of the best Android handset's we've ever used, but there were some big annoyances, mostly on the software-side with TouchWiz. In the AT&T version, a lot of these issues have been fixed.

Last week we got word that gamers in the UK will soon be getting that beautiful snow-white PS3 that debuted in Japan summer 2010. Now Sony is adding a couple of new colors to its line-up with the addition of a red and blue model. CNet reports that the two new PS3 Slims, in Splash Blue and Scarlet Red will arrive in Japan on November 17, each packing a 320GB HDD. General Motors has announced that it will partner with China's SAIC Motor Corporation on the development of an all-new electric vehicle. The final product will be sold in China under the SAIC brand, but GM will benefit from the deal by having a new electric vehicle platform which can be used to spawn new vehicles in other global markets. The new EV will be developed at SAIC and GM's Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center in Shanghai, where teams from both companies will work together to develop key components of the vehicle's structure.

This Oversized Poncho Will Stash Your Excess Baggage

Photo courtesy of Rufus Roo. The modern convenience of air travel comes with great costs: High-priced flights, TSA junk-groping, and of course the dreaded overage fees for checking bags that weigh more than 50 pounds. The Rufus Roo travel jacket aims to solve at least the latter problem. The jacket lets wearers avoid the excess baggage fees at the cost of personal style. If your suitcase ends up heftier than you'd like, you can stuff up to 22 pounds of excess crap into the pockets of your Rufus Roo.

The jacket comes in adult large and medium for about $50, or around $40 if you'd rather turn your child into your pack mule.

Today, HP confirmed that it's trimming the fat in the webOS division.

“As communicated on August 18, HP will discontinue the development of webOS devices within the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2011, which ends Oct. 31, 2011,” the company told AllThingsD today.

The Camera Day Pack Is Just Big Enough

The Camera Day Pack Is Just Big Enough

The Camera Day Pack won't break the bank, or your back. Having just spent a week walking around cities and towns in North Africa, I can tell you a thing or two about carrying a camera in a shoulder bag. It boils down to this: Pain. I took the Gadget Lab Stealth Bag with padding removed, and even then the weight of a Panasonic GF1, a lens and a few sundries cut into my shoulder and cricked my aging back after a few hours. If only I'd had the garish plastic Camera Day Pack from Photojojo.

Big enough, but not too big.
