Let's Visit Tokyo – Osaki

There is in any city in the world an area that really does not fit in, a place where whatever people try to do it will never work, and Osaki seems to me like one of this place. Osaki feel like a place that nobody really cares, people pass right through it but never seem to stop for a rest. And why would they. There is nothing interesting there to see, no big mall or department store, just barely the minimum with some king of business center that seems desperately empty.

Opinion: Luxgen EV puts Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf on notice

This little company could soon make a big splash in the automotive world. Whether flashing down the highway or wending my way through Taipei's notoriously chaotic rush-hour traffic, I was duly impressed by Luxgen's battery-electric MPV. Quick, luxurious, and bristling with electronic technology, I was astonished at how well this car has been developed. Acceleration from this seven-passenger minivan can only be described as brisk. Though I wasn't able to do any kind of timed runs, my seat-of-the-pants reaction is that it sure feels faster than a Chevy Volt or Nissan Leaf.

Android Market web site updated – now with clearer user review data

Google has tweaked its web-based Android Market listings once again, adding new data to each item's page that breaks down the user review scores for each app in a little more detail. As well as an overall out-of-five score like before, you may now also see how the votes are broken down. Like this:.
Not a huge amount of use, as most of the 1x5 scores trend to come from people who don't understand how to make apps work. But still. A nice graph.

Motorola Defy Android 2.2. update for T-Mobile at the “start of July”

Following the exciting release of Android 2.2 for the impressive Motorola Defy Android phone a couple of weeks ago, UK network T-Mobile has announced it'll be bringing the update to users who bought branded versions of the mobile through its network. The update will be ready in July. It's even pinned down the bit of July to the “start” of the month. Good to see.

The Motorola Defy's another phone we're planning to buy, just for fun, once it enters its end-of-life, crazy-discount price bracket.

Apple sues Samsung again for copying the iPhone's design, this time in South Korea

Apple sues Samsung again for copying the iPhone's design, this time in South Korea

As if Apple and Samsung's patent infringement catfight weren't distracting enough, Apple is recreating the legal spectacle in Samsung's home country of South Korea. Apple just filed a suit against Samsung Electronics in Seoul Central District Court, with Cupertino alleging that the Samsung Galaxy S copies the third-generation iPhone, according to a report from the online news site, MoneyToday. That closely matches the claims Apple made when it it sued Samsung back in April for “slavishly” copying the iPhone and iPad.

Virgin Mobile Motorola Triumph pre-orders start at Best Buy for $299.99

The Motorola Triumph was announced as a high-end Android offering for Virgin Mobile a couple of weeks ago, and since then we've heard that it may be released on July 19. While Virgin Mobile is staying mum on the matter for now, Best Buy isn't content on just sitting there and waiting. So the retailer has started taking pre-orders for the Motorola Triumph for Virgin Mobile. The smartphone is listed for $299.99 without a contract, which, given the specs here, is pretty decent indeed.

21st Century Train Design Will Let You Change Trains On The Go

21st Century Train Design Will Let You Change Trains On The Go

Industrial designer Paul Priestman of Priestmangoode had a vision; trains would run continuously non-stop and passengers will be able to switch trains even with the trains moving at high speeds. His reasoning was that stopping at various train stations is a waste of time and just generally time consuming, which we agree with to a certain extent, so instead of passengers disembarking at train stops, why not just disembark right onto the next train instead. If you're trying to wrap your head around the concept, here's how it's supposed to work.

Imerj dual-screen Android phone prototype spotted

Imerj dual-screen Android phone prototype spotted

The folks over at Engadget recently got their hands on a prototype phone from Imerj and gave it a thorough hands-on preview. The phone packs a dual-screen design that's reminiscent of the Kyocera Echo that was introduced not too long ago, though this one features some improvements that put it a notch above Kyocera's offering. First off you'll notice that it's running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread instead of 2.2 Froyo - which already makes the phone more attractive. It packs a 4″ display on each half, and when combined together it forms a 6″ display - 1″ shy of being a 7″ tablet, which isn't too bad at all.

webOS Pivot for HP TouchPad helps you find apps

webOS Pivot for HP TouchPad helps you find apps

We all know that one of the things an operating system needs in order to succeed is a strong development community behind it. More developers, means more apps, and when a platform has all the apps that a person needs, he/she will be more inclined to switch over to it. After all, the iOS's huge community of developers and plethora of apps available has been key to the success of the iPad. In an attempt to make webOS more interesting to developers, HP has decided to launch the webOS Pivot magazine.
Designed to complement the HP webOS App Catalog (HP's app store), Pivot will be a magazine that's completely focused on apps.

Dolby announces 3D Kids' Glasses

Dolby announces 3D Kids' Glasses

3D movies are all the rage right now - pretty much every movie that involves a cartoon character is optimized for the 3D experience. While cinemas have 3D glasses in adult sizes that are designed to be “one size fits all”, it's usually not the case with children. Most kids, especially really young ones have much smaller faces than other people. And smaller faces mean glasses that don't fit properly, possibly ruining the whole 3D movie experience for him/her.
Dolby understands this and has released some 3D glasses just for kids to solve the problem.

Imerj Smartpad Prototype Takes a Stab at Dual-Screen Android

Imerj Smartpad Prototype Takes a Stab at Dual-Screen Android

Is there an Echo in the building. We could have sworn the last time we saw this design it was a bulky, battery-sucking Kyocera design destined for Sprint, but what you see above is actually a joint effort by the teams at Imerj and Frog. The phone doesn’t have a name yet or even a model number, but the dual-screened handset being referred to as the 2-in-1 Smartpad is the latest attempt at shaking up Android phone design. Engadget got hands-on with the device and were surprisingly praiseworthy, calling it a “very different device” from the Kyocera Echo despite its looks.

Report: Supplier strike could potentially affect Chevy Sonic launch

Report: Supplier strike could potentially affect Chevy Sonic launch

The Chevrolet Sonic is set to being production in August, but Automotive News reports that a supplier issue could affect the launch's timing. LINC Logistics Co., which employs about 125 workers at the Orion assembly plant that will build the Sonic, is struggling to come to an agreement with employees at the facility. The LINC workers recently agreed to join the United Auto Workers, and now the blue collar bunch is looking for more money than the reported average of about $10 per hour. UAW workers employed by General Motors commonly make between $14 and $28 per hour.

NEW GAME: Jagen

NEW GAME: Jagen

We've just been emailed a friendly request by the developer of new Android game Jagen, suggesting we might like to give the game a try. So we did. And it's good. Jagen is a top-down, physics based thing that's “inspired by Marble Madness”, where you pilot a little ship around levels collecting samples using the accelerometer to control events.
It's looks great and is free, plus the maker promises an ongoing schedule of map updates and features. Here it is:

And our phone tells us that today's Groupon deals include a Glycolic Peel and Skin Assessment.

It's been few days since DiGi's site was down. Till now, their site is still inaccessible (we tried Streamyx and P1 WiMAX). But apparently their site isn't really down. If you have an iPhone using DiGi's SmartPlan, or you're using DiGi's Broadband, then you can still access their site. Weird? Yes, DiGi agrees, and says it's still investigating the cause of this weird issue.

2011 Pikes Peak Hill Climb, Practice Day 1 in the books

The 89th-annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb kicked things off early today with the first practice runs on the mountain. We'll be following the Unlimited Class, whose drivers will be contesting for the overall victory and the elusive ten-minute mark, and this morning they took on the middle portion of the course for the first of three practice sessions. This section is completely paved, but is one of the most difficult due to the high number of sharp switchbacks and extreme elevation change. It also makes for some picturesque views, as evidenced by the photos in the included image gallery.
