Nintendo GameCube turns ten years dead, still in denial about the whole color purple thing

Nintendo GameCube turns ten years dead, still in denial about the whole color purple thing

For many hardcore gamers, it wasn't so hard to say goodbye to the Big N's purple box of yesteryear. But for those of us who stuck by Nintendo's side in 2001 and embraced the quirky GameCube, today's 10th anniversary is all too bittersweet. Sure, the house that Mario built may have misfired when it slapped the wrong coat of paint on an otherwise competent chunk of hardware, yet let us not overlook the legacy of top-tier, first-party titles that led us bleary-eyed into the wee hours of the morning. Who could forget that first mischievous sacrifice, when you willfully slung a gaggle of Pikmin into the eager mouth of a Bulbor.

Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun took the stage talk about a new technology Nvidia is calling DIDIM that boosts battery life in a device by reducing the main culprit of battery drain — the display. Red Droid Incredible 2 Coming to Verizon Nov. 24

Verizon has a lot of new handsets for the holiday season, one of which would surely slip through the cracks if it wasn’t for its bold color scheme. Yes, Verizon is doing a second push for the HTC Droid Incredible 2 and this time the thing is slathered in red. The look reminds us of some of the initial leaks for the original Droid Incredible, when it was rendered to have a red battery cover similar to the one seen above. Other elements of the DInc2 remain the same with the new color scheme coming available beginning November 24th.

Android Market Refund Policy Redux: 48 Hours to Get Your Money Back?

Android Market Refund Policy Redux: 48 Hours to Get Your Money Back?

UPDATE: According to one developer responding to Android Central‘s initial report, the 48 hour refund window may have been misinterpreted. The text of the distribution agreement still maintains the 15 minute time frame for a user to request a refund. The 48-hour period apparently refers to the amount of time Google has to actually replace the funds in the buyer’s account. The Android Market’s original refund policy of 24 hours was more than a generous amount of time for users to decide whether or not an app was worth their cash.

Will BMW's electric turbocharger end turbo lag?

Will BMW's electric turbocharger end turbo lag?

Yes, apparently there is a replacement for displacement. If recently-uncovered patent filings are correct, BMW is working on an electrically-assisted turbocharger that combines a traditional turbo with an electric motor-generator. If it works, the system will let smaller engines produce more power, while performing virtually lag-free. Turbochargers have long been a way to employ “lost” energy, in the form of fast-moving exhaust gases, to create more power by stuffing more air into the cylinders to burn more fuel.

Microsoft releases Bing app for Android, iOS, not Windows Phone 7

In a move that can be simultaneously described as puzzling and pragmatic, Microsoft has decided to bring its Bing for Mobile app to Android and iOS before launching it on its very own Windows Phone platform. The company announced the release in a blog post this week, highlighting the app's most noteworthy features, including a revamped maps module, a new deals service and real-time transit feeds. Interestingly enough, Redmond also based its app on HTML5, rather than Silverlight, in the hopes of providing greater continuity across mobile browser and app interfaces.

Gamers Solve Real World Retrovirus Enzyme Secret

Video gamers may have opened the door a new AIDS drug. Researchers at the University of Washington challenged gamers to play Foldit and come up with the structure of a retrovirus enzyme – a task scientists could not solve over more than a decade. Well guess what. The gamers did it did it in three weeks.
“We wanted to see if human intuition could succeed where automated methods had failed,” said Firas Khatib of the University of Washington Department of Biochemistry. The enzyme in Foldit has a critical role in how the AIDS virus matures and proliferates, the research group said.

The folks over at Pocket Gamer recently got hands-on time with this category-quashing controller, dubbed Gametel, that connects to handsets using clamps and a rubberized grip, no matter your mobile manufacturer of choice. Unfortunately, there's no analogue pad here, so it's not quite on par with its PlayStation Certified competition, but it will hold hands over Bluetooth with any Googlefied phones running Froyo and up.

Gametel Is An Attachable Wireless Android Controller For All Devices – Get Your Game On

As much as I love gaming, I'd have to say that it can sometimes be a pretty painful task on my smartphone. Say what you will about virtual d-pads, analog sticks or buttons — they just ain't right. Try throwing a hadouken or making a head shot and you'll soon learn it's damn near impossible without tactile feedback. Not to mention your chubby fingers all over the screen, obstructing your view. Nothing — and mean nothing, will ever be able to replace good, old fashioned, physical buttons for the gaming enthusiast.

Sony Ericsson knew this fact and it's one of the reasons they launched the Xperia Play.

Just last month, we off-handedly said that HP's Envy laptops were among the most shameless MacBook impersonations we've seen. Looks like we spoke too soon: the company just introduced a redesigned Envy 15, Envy 17 and Envy 17 3D, and we have to say: the interior here is just uncanny. If you ask company reps, they'll tell you the old taupe design was too masculine (despite the divets arranged in a floral pattern!), and that the new aesthetic is more gender-neutral. Fair enough, we suppose, though we defy you to tell us that touchpad, silvery aluminum chassis and black, chiclet-style keyboard aren't familiar.
