It's the problem that won't go away for LightSquared, and one that has prompted a number of different "fixes" and "solutions." The latest, as announced by the LTE wholesaler last month, is an actual hardware fix that overcomes the interference issue affecting high-precision GPS units - the only problem being that all existing and future units will need to be upgraded with said fix.

Nokia to make Windows 8 tablets?

Nokia to make Windows 8 tablets?

We know that Microsoft has explicitly mentioned that there won't be any Windows Phone 7 tablets; we know that there will be Windows 8 tablets, since the operating system has even been specifically designed for them. Well, it looks like Nokia might be onboard with creating Windows 8 tablets. According to an interview The Verge/This Is My Next recently had with Stephen Elop, Nokia's CEO, he mentioned that Windows 8 could be a big opportunity for the company which basically hinted at Windows 8 tablets, seeing how the OS isn't designed for phones.

MYTRAK – Another fitness gadget to motivate us to get off the couch

I'm starting to notice a trend lately… In the last few months, there have been 4 similar $100 fitness gadgets announced. We reviewed the Fitbit (link below in the related posts list), then there was the NewYu, then the Striiv and now the MYTRAK. They all have some type of display that shows your daily activity level (or lack there of). As you walk, workout, etc, the display will change to motivate you to continue. The MYTRAK uses a circular display that starts out Red and changes to Green as you progress.

In case you're unfamiliar with Carousel, it is an app that lets users access their entire photo library from their iOS devices or Mac OS computers without having to worry about manual syncing. A lot of times we can take photographs on our various devices and forget to transfer them to our main computers, and sometimes they end up being forgotten. With Carousel, Adobe aims to solve that problem.

Just relaxing with a paper-thin tablet and smartphone, at some point in the theoretical future. Image: Microsoft. How do you see yourself living a decade from now. But for some folks at Microsoft, it's their job to figure out where technology is headed, and how to make it happen. And a recently released video shows just what they envision.

The video, titled Productivity Future Vision, shows us a world much like our own, but cooler. Microsoft sees touchscreens and holographic displays dominating our daily experiences.

Office of Fair Trading gives thumbs up to Amazon's purchase of The Book Depository

Amazon may have faced stiff opposition to its plans to acquire British online bookseller The Book Depository, but one of those not standing in its path is the Office of Fair Trading. Over protests from the UK Booksellers Association, Publishers Association and Independent Publishers Guild, the OFT approved the purchase, saying that the acquisition would not form a de facto monopoly. While Amazon's market share is "strong" its newest purchase only holds between two- and four-percent - hardly making it a competitor of the internet giant.

China behind US satellite attack?

China behind US satellite attack?

It seems as though hackers were the ones behind the attack on two of Uncle Sam's satellites in 2007 and 2008, and they seem to hail from China – at least that is what a report which will be released next month from a congressional commission mentions. Apparently, the hackers managed to obtain access to the satellites via a ground station in Norway. These satellites' primary duty would be for climate and terrain monitoring.

The results were sealed when multiple champion Sebastien Loeb and his co-driver Daniel Elena won this past weekend's Rally of Spain. The victory ensured that the Citroën World Rally Team could not be caught by Ford, even though there is still one round to go before the 13-rally calendar draws to a close in Wales next month. Getting about on a bicycle can be one of the more liberating modes of transport, although some might say that it can get rather dangerous as well. After all, during the evenings or at night, a car or other vehicle might just knock you down simply because they failed to see your presence. LED by LITE might help you out here though, where four strips of silicone-encased LED bulbs will see a couple of those mounted on your bicycle's front forks, with the remaining two that sport red bulbs end up on the seat stays. Since all four strips are waterproof, you need not worry about rain and the elements.

SandForce has been behind many an SSD in its day, but it looks like it's finally about to settle down, and get hitched. The deal brings SandForce's processors and energy efficient DuraClass technology under LSI's roof, giving the semiconductor designer some new flash firepower and an extra boost into a burgeoning market. Tangible results, of course, remain to be seen, though it's certainly not the first time these two have danced.

Google Voice Search recognizes thick accents in challenging conditions

The folks over at Google Australia were wondering how come not many people in the country were using its Google Voice Search app despite it being able to understand Australian accents. So in order to prove a point, they decided to visit the South Australian desert, set up a long distance voice search - 50 meters to be exact, and put Google Voice Search to the test. And if being able to recognize thick accents over a long distance wasn't impressive enough, another Google team went to the Great Barrier Reef there to test Google Voice Search underwater.

We say proprietary and you think, Sony. Isn't that how it usually goes. For the electronic giant's latest reVitalized foray into portable gaming, the same old custom solution is in tow - now, with limited storage options. General Motors is recalling nearly 34,000 2012 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain crossovers over improperly calibrated tire pressure monitoring sensors. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the monitors are required to be calibrated to illuminate a warning light any time a tire is inflated to 25 percent above the recommended level. The sensors in 2012 Equinox and Terrain models may not illuminate until the tire is much further above that threshold. NHTSA says that improperly inflated tires could lead to an accident due to premature wear and excess heat.
