Smart Trash Can Able To Track Smartphones As People Pass

Smart Trash Can Able To Track Smartphones As People Pass

When you're making your way through a city, the last thing you think about are garbage cans, that is, unless you're really in the need of one. For the most part, people tend to pay no attention to trash cans, but a startup in the U.K. has developed a smart trash can that can track the smartphones of those who pass it as well as the speed at which they're traveling. Renew is the U.K.

Low-end LG Optimus L1 II unveiled. Runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, costs $93

Low-end LG Optimus L1 II unveiled. Runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, costs $93

LG has announced another Android-powered smartphone, but this time it's at the exact opposite end of the roster compared to the G2 (the previous device that the company unveiled). The LG Optimus L1 II is part of the refreshed Optimus L family, which is about bringing stylish handsets (at least in LG's acceptance of the word) to the masses – with decent specs and affordable pricing. It's got a funny name, though, since there was no LG Optimus L1 – so the L1 II isn't a successor to anything.

Chromecast And Enabling Incognito Tabs

Chromecast And Enabling Incognito Tabs

Ever since Google's Chromecast was announced, we have learned a whole lot about it, from how it was rooted not too long after it was released, before an update for Chromecast was announced to fix this particular root exploit. Apart from that, we also learned that Chromecast will not be getting support for public Wi-Fi networks, and neither will it support live YouTube streams. The official Chromecast app for Android was also launched already, and there is even a Gameboy emulator spotted running on Chromecast, albeit in a far smaller display than expected.

Bill Gates Criticizes Google For Not Doing Enough Philanthropic Work

Bill Gates has been known for his philanthropic efforts, having spent his time and millions, if not billions, of his money to help improve living conditions around the world, especially in developing countries. While that is certainly a noble effort on his part, it seems that he also expects people and companies of his position and status to do the same thing, to the point where he has recently criticized Google for being carrying out more philanthropic activities. Speaking to Bloomberg in an interview, Gates was quoted as saying, "Google started out saying they were going to do a broad set of things.

How will you customize your Moto X? [Forum Talk]

How will you customize your Moto X? [Forum Talk]

After having about a week to sleep on it, most people know by now whether or not they're going to buy a Motorola Moto X. For those who are definitely “in for one,” we want to know — are you going to wait for the Moto Maker to come to your carrier (if you're not on AT&T). And, if you are, what color will you order your device in. Hell, even if you aren't planning on buying the Moto X we want to know what set of colors you'd get yours in.
I, for one, would pay homage to my Halloween birthday and get the device in black with orange accents.

Average US car now a record-setting 11.4 years old

Average US car now a record-setting 11.4 years old

Cars are becoming less and less of a disposable item, according to a report from The Detroit Free Press. The average age of the 247 million cars and trucks in the US fleet is now up to 11.4 years, an increase of two full years since 2007 and 0.2 years since 2012. The newspaper spoke with Mark Seng, vice president of industry research firm Polk, who cited consumers' desire to avoid monthly payments and the ever-improving quality of mainstream cars and trucks as reasons for the increased age. The first item is fairly obvious – no one really likes to carry a monthly car payment. The second point, though, is perhaps less obvious.

PS4 Rumored To Receive PS Vita Bundle For $500 In 2013

It should be no secret by now for future PlayStation 4 owners Sony will be using its PlayStation Vita as a way to extend the experience gamers will have with the console on a handheld. We already know both the PS4 and PS Vita were developed at the same time with Sony mandating remote-play support for all PS4 titles, so it doesn't come as a complete surprise to hear a rumor circulating where the company plans on bundling both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita together.

Changhong Z9 Sports Massive 5,000mAh Battery

Changhong Z9 Sports Massive 5,000mAh Battery

How many times have you used your smartphone in the past only for it to run out of juice during the most crucial moment. Well, one of the solutions would be to bring a charger with you wherever you go – one in the car, and another to plug into an available AC outlet. The thing is, that can prove to be quite inconvenient for some, which is why a different solution in the form of a battery case has been introduced before, and we have seen our fair share of battery cases, too. How about increasing the default battery capacity instead, like what Motorola did with their Droid MAXX.

MSI GS70 Is Thinnest And Lightest 17' Gaming Notebook

MSI GS70 Is Thinnest And Lightest 17' Gaming Notebook

MSI is no stranger to gaming notebooks in the past, and here we are with yet another model that looks set to burn up benchmark scores – with the MSI GS70, which has been touted by MSI to be the "world's thinnest and lightest" 17-inch gaming notebook, where it was specially designed in order to fuse the power required so that it can tackle even the most demanding games, without sacrificing on portability. Of course, anything that is 17" in my opinion is not going to cut the mustard should it be used as your showfloor coverage device – that is what Ultrabooks and the MacBook Air are for.

Acer Liquid Z3 Android Smartphone Announced

Acer Liquid Z3 Android Smartphone Announced

Acer is probably best known for the computers and tablets, and while the company has in the past dabbled in smartphones, safe to say they aren't exactly selling like hot cakes, but it seems that now Acer is turning their attention towards the Android platform and have officially announced the Acer Liquid Z3. We're not sure why Acer has chosen to launch the Liquid Z3, especially with its basic specs which pales in comparison to higher-end devices like the Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One, and Sony Xperia Z, but perhaps Acer is looking to capture the low-end market although it's safe to say that there are many competitors in that segment as well.

Apps worth rooting for: GMD GestureControl

I hate bringing it up again on Phandroid, but as some of you might know, my preferred desktop OS is the Mac. I've been using OS X Lion for the past two years, and despite spending a significant amount of time with Ubuntu, Windows 7 and 8 during that time, I could never switch. The reason. I'm in love with their multitouch. I have become so accustomed to it, particularly when used in conjunction with their multiple desktops and an app call
ed BetterTouchTool, which allows you to set custom multitouch gestures.
