Motorola DROID RAZR M 4G LTE pictures and specs leak

Engadget has managed to get their hands on some images and specs of the yet to be announced Motorola DROID RAZR M 4G LTE. The phone looks like a close relative of the Motorola DROID RAZR (as do most of the phones Motorola announced recently) but is much narrower, making it easier to hold despite its large display.

GeoPalz – Pedometers for Kids

To promote physical fitness and as another tool to help fight childhood obesity, GeoPalz is pairing their kid styled pedometers with an online rewards based gaming website. Through the online arcade, users (5-10yrs old) can report their steps walked, which are logged through their pedometers and exchange steps for time with games such as Avalanche, Snow-Drift, Mega-Mash and Final-Ninja. 1000 steps will earn you 1.5 minutes of game play. 10,000 steps get you 15 minutes. There are currently 20 different games and 26 different pedometers, which are priced at $25 each. I think rewards based pedometer programs are great. We have this at Cummins.

Hate Windows 8 already? The Pro OEM edition will let you downgrade as far back as Vista

If you buy a new Windows 8 Pro PC and discover that you really do detest the OS that much, you may be able to switch back to an older version — either Windows 7 or Vista, but not near-death XP — under the same OEM license. Will many folks want to do that. Probably not, and in any case these so-called downgrade rights are actually only helpful in specific circumstances and they don't come with boxed retail versions of the software. The main practical benefit (albeit still a niche one) is that a manufacturer could technically offer a Windows 7 disc in the box with a new Windows 8 machine and give customers a choice of OS.

Verizon intros Mobile Security app for Android, wants to keep you safe

McAfee's been offering mobile protection services on Android for a while now, but Verizon's taking it a step further and bringing an application tailored specifically for its own customers with help from the Intel-owned outfit. The Mobile Security app - which is also powered by Asurion - aims to assist the Big Red crowd by protecting their devices from many "digital and physical threats," giving Android (2.1 or later) users the ability to lock, set up alarms, wipe data and locate handsets remotely.

Sebastian Vettel and Melanie Fiona star in new music video

The Infiniti Inspired Performers series takes Red Bull Formula One team drivers out of the cockpit and into videos that require a different skill set. As part of his ongoing role in the campaign, Sebastian Vettel has now given up kung-fu in China on the Mission Impossible set for wheelman work in New Jersey on a music video set with singer Melanie Fiona and the song "Watch Me Work.". Sure, driving and drifting an Infiniti G37 Convertible doesn't sound like a big step away from his day job, but Vettel also helps get the party started, and gets to play DJ.

Early Nintendo brochure shows us the childhood we could have had, the knitting we never did

We all know what the Nintendo Entertainment System looks like, right. Well, if a butterfly had flapped its wings in a slightly different manner, things could have apparently been quite different. Former Director of Game Creative at Nintendo America, Howard Phillips, has recently uploaded some images taken from a 1985 brochure for a precursor to the NES called the AVS (Advanced Video System).

New York bookshop launches rescue mission to digitize out-of-print sci-fi titles

Singularity & Co aims to rescue near-extinct 20th century sci-fi titles to ensure they still exist in the next one. Established from a Kickstarter campaign, the small team has already digitized and published A Plunge Into Space and The Torch, both with new cover art, while its third title required a thousand-mile journey to scan its contents from a university archive. While Mr. Stranger's Sealed Packet is out of copyright, many education establishments weren't willing to let anyone scan its edition of such rare books.

Samsung Galaxy Stellar available through Verizon beginning Thursday, free after rebate

Samsung's decidedly grounded Stellar smartphone just got the official nod from Verizon, launching on Thursday with a $50 price tag (before a $50 mail-in rebate). The "free" handset packs a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon, Ice Cream Sandwich, LTE connectivity, a 4-inch WVGA display an a rather modest image capture duo - a 1.3-megapixel camera up front and an autofocus-capable 3.2-megapixel snapper on the rear. There's also 802.11n WiFi and support for microSD cards up to 32GB. As unimpressive as they may be, none of these specs comes as a surprise, following the smartphone's early debut on Best Buy's site last week.

E-book discounts appearing at Amazon following publisher settlement

E-book discounts appearing at Amazon following publisher settlement

Wow. Judge Denise Cote certainly knows how to put a spring in the step of mega corporations. Mere days have passed since she ordered HarperCollins to let retailers to set their own e-book prices, and yet already Kindle bestsellers from that publisher are selling for around $9.99 - in some cases that's $15 off the list price. Under the same settlement, Hachette Book Group and Simon & Schuster must also give retailers like Amazon greater flexibility over prices, so we may well see more lowered prices soon.

2013 Volvo V40 R-Design is swift safety in high style

As if we weren't already jealous enough about Europe getting one of the safest and most stylish Volvo cars ever made, the Swedish automaker goes and drops the R-Design treatment on its new hatchback/wagon. Unlike some other R-Design models, the 2013 Volvo V40 R-Design doesn't get any additional power under the hood, but it does come with a more aggressive styling and a lower, firmer suspension setup. Looking like the world's edgiest Smurf, the V40 R-Design receives restyled fascias, some slick five-spoke alloy wheels and this exclusive paint color, Rebel Blue – although this model is also available in six other colors.

netTALK DUO WiFi Review

netTALK DUO WiFi Review

About two years ago, I reviewed the netTALK DUO.  Since then the people at netTALK have been keeping themselves busy by coming out with a new version, the netTALK DUO WiFi, which allows you to place the device anywhere there's power and a WiFi signal.  You're no longer tethered to either the computer or a router.  They've also added some other features. Before I go into the details of the netTALK DUO WiFi, I'd like to point out that switching to a VOIP solution for a phone service is not for everyone.  This has become very clear to me based upon the numerous comments in a review I did for another VOIP device here on The Gadgeteer.

2013 BMW M5 may have more horsepower than reported

2013 BMW M5 may have more horsepower than reported

With the 2013 BMW M5 finally going on sale in the U.S., we definitely saw this coming. BimmerPost recently got a hold of engine dyno run for the new M5, and is reporting that the car's twin-turbo V8 is "severely" underrated. Officially, the M5's 4.4-liter V8 is rated at 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, but the dyno graph reveals numbers at the rear wheels to be 527 hp and 476 lb-ft in completely stock form. While the idea of the engine being underrated is just an assumption, the general rule of thumb is a 15-percent drivetrain loss – if accurate, the new M5's losses would be just six percent.

Amazon announces 7 and 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HDs, pricing starts at $199

Amazon has made the jump from small to big screens with its e-readers in the past, and its now done so again with its tablets. The company has just announced a new Kindle Fire HD with an 8.9-inch, 1920 x 1200 display (or 254 ppi). The device measures 8.8mm thick and weighs in at 20 ounces, and that high-res screen has a polarizing filter on it that promises to cut down on glare - the touch sensor is also laminated, which Amazon says offers better sharpness and contrast. As for internals, the Fire HD 8.9 (as Amazon has distinguished it) has a TI OMAP 4470 processor, dual speakers, a front-facing HD camera, and HDMI out.
