Ferrari testing 458 Challenge Evoluzione at Mugello

Ferrari testing 458 Challenge Evoluzione at Mugello

Ferrari makes road cars, it makes racecars, and it makes road cars into racecars. The 458 Challenge falls into the latter category, transforming the 458 Italia into the basis for Maranello's one-make spec racing series. It replaced the F430 Challenge in 2011, which in turn followed the 360 Challenge, F355 Challenge and 348 Challenge that started it all in the mid-90s. Now the Prancing Horse marque is set to move the game forward again with the revised 458 Challenge Evoluzione.

Aprilia returning to MotoGP in 2016

Sportbike enthusiasts may have been a little disappointed that Aprilia didn't have anything groundbreaking to unveil at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan this year, but motorbike racing fans got some good news. Roberto Colaninno, head of parent company Piaggio, revealed that Aprilia will stage a return to MotoGP in 2016. The Italian company has had its ups and downs in motorcycle racing these past few years. Although it has been a dominant presence in the lower-displacement classes for years, it failed to keep up with the competition in the top tier.

Google+ profiles will soon be used to identify callers

Caller ID in today's digital age is something to be desired. Most modern caller ID services will only promise information about businesses and other public numbers, but personal identification seems to be an afterthought if you don't have the caller in your address book. Google wants to change that. The company has announced that the new Android 4.4 KITKAT dialer will soon be able to show your name and Google+ profile picture to callers if you so choose. It'll simply identify you using the phone number you have tied to your Google+ account.

Doxie Flip mobile flatbed scanner review

Doxie Flip mobile flatbed scanner review

The Doxie Flip is a small flatbed scanner that runs on batteries for true portability. Unlike other small mobile scanners that we've reviewed over the years, this one doesn't require you to slide the scanner across the document that you wish to capture. The Flip has been designed like a true flatbed scanner, only much smaller. It also offers a twist, or maybe I should say it offers a flip. Let me show you.

Verizon Ellipsis tablet now available for $250, and we finally have a list of specs

Verizon Ellipsis tablet now available for $250, and we finally have a list of specs

It wasn't but two days ago that Verizon announced the 7-inch Ellipsis, a $250 Android tablet ($150 if you're willing to sign a two-year contract agreement) that would house Big Red's 4G LTE radios (and an oversized bezel). Those were literally the only things we knew about the device, though, because Verizon wasn't interested in highlighting a specs sheet — likely for good reason.  .
Now that the device is available (right here if you're interested), we most definitely are interested. So what's inside this thing? Well, the tale of the tape is just as dull as we imagined it'd be.

1951 Studebaker fastback is the woody that never was

A 1951 Studebaker fastback might not be the first vehicle to come to mind when we think "Woody," but here one sits on the SEMA show floor. There's a reason for that: Studebaker didn't make a woody or a fastback in 1951, according to Hot Rod. Hill's Rod & Custom came up with the creation, hired a professional to design it and took on the challenge to build it. The project had its ups and downs, and at one point it went up for auction before the shop could finish it. But one of its customers made the winning bid and took the car back to have it finished.

GM mulling Chevy Cruze hatchback for US, Buick 'Panamera' among other new models

We've spoken at length previously about the fallacy of poor hatchback sales in the US, and with the runaway success of its Chevrolet Cruze sedan, it's somewhat unsurprising to hear that General Motors is rethinking its decision not to sell an overseas five-door variant in North America as it looks to plug a number of holes in its lineup. GM North American President Mark Reuss admitted during a media luncheon this week that not offering the model ". was a pre-bankruptcy planning mistake," says Forbes. With the next-generation model already well-along in development, it's likely that the current Cruze hatch (shown above) won't see US dealers.

World Of Warcraft: Warlords Of Draenor Expansion Announced

After much speculation, it turns out that the trademark was legit and that the next World of Warcraft expansion is indeed called, Warlords of Draenor. For gamers who might not have played the original Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, there might be some aspects of the game that might be lost on you, but for faithful followers of the Warcraft franchise, there will be some fond memories right there. The expansion will introduce two factions warring against each other: the Draenei (who made their appearance in the Burning Crusade expansion), and the iron orcs who have inhabited the world of Draenor alongside the Draenei.

The new Android 4.4 KitKat launcher. Once Android 4.4 dropped onto the scene with it's fancy new Google experience launcher (I prefer to call it the Google Now launcher), many were wondering what would happen to popular homescreen replacements like Nova Launcher. Well, Nova Launcher's father Kevin Barry decided to chime in on his plans for Android 4.4 KitKat and what it means for Nova.

According to Barry, he's been working hard to bring the “look and feel” of the Nexus 5′s homescreen to Nova Launcher, complete with transparent nav and notification bars, light folders, and circular page indicators (ew).

HTC posts loss in Q3, predicts declining revenue in Q4

HTC's unaudited report for the third quarter of this year pointed to the first quarterly loss in the company's history. The final report confirms that and doesnÂ't paint a rosy picture for Q4 either. The company's revenue for Q3 this year was $1.6 billion. That's a sizeable drop from the $2.4 billion in last year's Q3, and $4.54 billion for the same quarter in 2011.

GFT mobile banking study: Mobiles cannot replace local bank branches

The key to success lies in integrating different points of presence. London, November 5, 2013 – Is a cashless society the shape of things to come. Many predict a world without physical money, where people are prepared to carry out all their banking transactions through mobile devices. But few are willing to completely do without personal interaction with advisors. These were findings of a recent study conducted by GFT Technologies. As part of its survey, the international IT solutions provider asked some 900 people – in Brazil, Germany, the UK, Spain and the United States.

iPhone Air Concept Takes Design Inspiration From The iPad Air

iPhone Air Concept Takes Design Inspiration From The iPad Air

With Apple calling their latest iPad the iPad Air in lieu of its lightness and thinness, can we expect Apple to give their next iPhone the same treatment as well. While that remains unknown at this point in time, Federico Ciccarese of Ciccarese Design have come up with a concept that he is calling the iPhone Air. It's a bit hard to tell from these photos, but presumably his take on the next-gen iPhone will make it thinner and lighter than its predecessor, the iPhone 5s.

C/D figures out how to beat 2014 SRT Viper launch control

Launch control is one of the coolest recent technologies in the automotive realm. Push a button, follow a procedure, and you'll be rewarded with the best acceleration that a computer can be programmed to achieve. It's simple, and it works. That said, a computer can sometimes be beaten by a skilled driver. In the video below, Car and Driver outlines the proper way to activate and use launch control in a 2014 SRT Viper, resulting in a 4.2-second run to 60 miles per hour and a quarter-mile time of 12.1 seconds at 125 mph. Not bad. But it can be improved.

Driver smashes police car after 109-mph chase

A high-speed chase involving an allegedly drunk driver ended in a rather scary crash on Highway 41 in Milwaukee, WI in the wee hours of Monday morning. The driver of the Ford Taurus, 40-year-old Kevin Hutchins, hit speeds of up to 109 miles per hour, with three police cars in pursuit. It looks like Hutchins tried to pull a fast one on officers, heading for an exit and then changing lanes at the last minute. But he seemed to have miscalculated the point of no return, and had a head-on impact with a concrete divider.

If there's one thing parents love to nag their kids about, it would be how they spend too much time playing video games, chatting on their computers, playing with their phones or have their noses buried in a tablet, but over in Sweden it would seem that is the opposite case. Children are complaining that their parents are a little too tech-obsessed and are spending more time than they would like on their gadgets. This is according to a study conducted where it was found that 33% of Swedish parents admitted that their use of their phone and/tablet was a sore point with their kids.

LAPD BatCat is a criminal's remote-controlled nightmare

LAPD BatCat is a criminal's remote-controlled nightmare

The Los Angeles Police Department has an annual budget for 2013 of almost $1.4 billion. That's a lot of money, but it also allows one of the biggest police departments in one of the country's biggest cities to buy some really, really cool toys. Toys like this - the BatCat. The BatCat is a "commercial-grade forklift" that will happily tear apart buildings, flip vehicles and generally make the life of any criminal stupid enough to hide from the LAPD pretty miserable. It's party trick, though, is its ability to be driven remotely, keeping the operators at a safe distance in dangerous situations.
