AT&T files response to DOJ suit, says regulators just don't understand

It's no secret or surprise that AT&T is unhappy with the DOJ's decision to try and block its merger with T-Mobile. But issuing public statements is one thing, officially filing papers in court is another. Ma Bell submitted a 25-page document arguing that the Justice Department's claims represent a misunderstanding of the market and dismisses competition from "innovative upstarts," like MetroPCS and US Cellular. AT&T's lawyers point out that T-Mo, currently the fourth largest provider, has been losing customers for years and it's German parent company may not be inclined to invest much in improving it.

Rovio may be seeking partnership with Angry Birds theme park in China

Given all the patent wars that are going on right now, you would think Rovio's lawyers would be swooping in like angry birds (sorry, could not resist!) onto an Angry Birds theme park in China, claiming that they are infringing on intellectual property, so on and so forth. Oddly enough it seems that Rovio has no intention on suing, but instead are open to partnership. Now I'm sure most of you guys are aware of Rovio's wildly popular smartphone game, Angry Birds. For those who are unfamiliar, it's a game where you catapult birds into structures with pigs living in them in an attempt to bring it all down before you run out of birds.

Logitec LDT-1Si41 turns your iPhone 4 into a portable TV

Logitec Japan (not to be confused with Logitech) recently announced the launch of the LDT-1Si41. The LDT-1Si41 is a battery pack for the iPhone 4 that does more than provide juice in times of need. It comes with an inbuilt retractable antenna that will allow users to watch terrestrial TV on their iPhones. Apple tops J.D. Power customer satisfaction survey, grim reading for RIM and Nokia

Not only is Apple shipping the most smartphones, it's also shipping the best smartphones - if you believe the stats in J.D. Power and Associates' latest US customer satisfaction survey. It gave the iPhone a score of 838, versus HTC's handsets in second place with 801 and an industry average of 788. Sammy got a disappointing 777, but we guess it might have fared better if the Galaxy S II had been quicker to cross the Atlantic. Hapless RIM got shunted into fifth place, having come second in 2010. You'll find plenty more factoids in the PR after the break, including evidence that people just love 4G.

Could MacRumors' iPhone 5 mockup actually be a new 'iPad Nano'. Photo MacRumors. The rumors around the upcoming iPhone 5, expected to be announced this month, are swirling like Quidditch players around a Quaffle. The iPhone 5 will have a bigger screen, smaller bezel, lozenge shaped home button and be thinner than the current iPhone. Or maybe Apple will revamp the iPhone 4 into an iPhone 4S, like it did with the 3G/3GS. Or perhaps it is making an all-new cheap pre-pay iPhone as well as an iPhone 5.

Nintendo 3DS sales up by 260% after price cut

If there's one thing that makes products sell even better than upgrades or new features - you can't seem to go wrong with price reduction. If you need any proof, look no further than the HP TouchPad. Another company that cut the prices for its product not too long ago was Nintendo with its price reduction for the Nintendo 3DS. After the drop to $169.99 back in August, it looks like sales of the handheld console have sky rocketed.
In a press release from Nintendo today, it has been reported that sales for the Nintendo 3DS in the US have shot up 260% ever since the price cut.

Normally our response to something called a Merdad Mehron GT would be "The what what?" Having seen it, however, our response is: "That's hot." The British tuning firm that normally occupies itself turning Porsche Cayennes into hot, swollen messes has looked homeward and out of nowhere done a bang-up job with the McLaren MP4-12C. As impressive as McLaren's offering is out of the box, to our eye, Merdad has made it better. It has done so with a body kit that beefs up the svelte lines of the standard car. Up front is a new splitter with cues from the Ferrari 360 and GT by Citroën.

Toyota trades miles for knots with new Ponam-35 boat

Toyota trades miles for knots with new Ponam-35 boat

Toyota doesn't just make crafts for landlubbers. The Japanese automaker is venturing into the ocean, and this isn't the first time that Toyota engineers have put on life jackets. In the late 90's, Toyota tried its hand at building a boat targeted at towable watersports enthusiasts. The Toyota Epic was a Lexus-engined ski boat that was built for a few years before the automaker backed away in 2001. Now, Toyota is ready to head to sea with a very different type of craft.
Called the Ponam-35, this nearly 40-foot cruiser is a stylish ship that gets power from two diesel V8 engines sourced from the Toyota Land Cruiser.

The evidence that the Samsung I9250 is nearing its launch is becoming overwhelming - yesterday it was a leaked user agent profile and today brings us a dummy support page for the I9250. The page is pretty much empty besides some FAQ and How-to entries that don't belong to the Samsung I9250 (one of them is for the Omnia 7, for example). Anyway, the I9250 is supposed to be the next Nexus phone - the Nexus Prime. It will be the first device with the next generation Android - Ice Cream Sandwich, which is hopefully coming out in October.

Those rumors are pretty certain, unlike the rest of the specs for the Samsung I9250/Nexus Prime.

While Google has chosen not to renew its partnership with Twitter for social searches, Bing will still be onboard - according to a recent tweet exchange between the Bing Twitter account and the official Twitter account (and also confirmed by a Twitter spokesperson). With Google having its own social networks, Google+ and Google Buzz, it's an understandable move - after all, why would the company want to promote a competitor's service. But since Google's own offerings haven't exactly been the most popular services around, it'll be interesting to see whether it will lose consumers to Bing when it comes to social searching.
