Semi-autonomous Nissan Leaf certified for road use in Japan (video)

In order to meet its goal of having an autonomous car in production by 2020, Nissan is going to have be able to test its technology in real-world driving conditions. For this, the automaker has just received a license plate to legally test its semi-autonomous driver assist systems in Japan, marking the first time such technologies have been tested on that country's roads. Not ironically, the license plate number is 2020.

UAW tactics called into question at VW's TN plant

UAW tactics called into question at VW's TN plant

The United Auto Workers is in hot water with some of the very workers it is trying to unionize at Volkswagen's Chattanooga assembly plant. According to The Tennessean, eight Volkswagen factory workers have filed complaints against the UAW with the National Labor Relations Board, claiming the union "misled or coerced" them into formally asking for union representation. The UAW has instituted a major push at the Chattanooga plant to represent the 2,500 hourly laborers that build the VW Passat by using what's called a card-check process.

HTC One Developer Edition now getting Android 4.3 update

HTC One Developer Edition now getting Android 4.3 update

HTC has been quite quick to bring out the Android 4.3 update. International units began receiving the upgrade earlier this week, and now the Taiwanese company has announced that the rollout for the developer edition of the device has started. It makes sense that these versions of the device are seeing it so early, as HTC doesn't have to deal with annoyingly lengthy carrier approval processes. You'll be going from version from version 1.29.1540.17 to 3.22.1540.1, in case you were wondering.

CMOY Headphone Amplifier review

CMOY Headphone Amplifier review

Before deciding if you want - or need - the CMOY Headphone Amplifier, there is something any buyer should ask themselves: Why do you want one. Seriously, this is important, because many people will buy a headphone amp for all the wrong reasons. Consider this: If you want an amp to make your music louder and more "head-banging," save your money - and your hearing. That's not the purpose of an amp. Sure, the volume will be louder - heck, it should be louder - but the true purpose of any headphone amp is to make music sound better at all volumes.

Instagram For BlackBerry Will Not Be Arriving Anytime Soon

It has been stated many times in the past that Instagram would not be arriving on BlackBerry anytime soon, but for whatever reason we guess there are BlackBerry users out there who are hoping that this would change in the future, but unfortunately this does not look to be the case as BlackBerry's VP of developer relations, Alec Saunders, has quashed all hope during a Q&A session during BlackBerry Jam Asia 2013.

Need For Speed Movie Trailer

Need For Speed Movie Trailer

Generally speaking, when it comes to movies that are inspired or based upon a video game, the end result (read: ticket sales) might not be all that movie studio executives expect. In fact, it is far easier for a popular book or comic to make it big on the silver screen rather than that of an actual video game itself, although there has been some exceptions to the rule in the past. Mortal Kombat stank, the evergreen Mario Bros. could not save, but Pokemon. That certainly did quite well with its target market back then.

Rolls-Royce considering carbon coachbuilding?

Rolls-Royce considering carbon coachbuilding?

There's any number of applications in which you might expect to find carbon fiber on an automobile, but a Rolls-Royce is not one of them. That could change in the near future, however, as the super-luxe auto marque is reportedly looking into using the lightweight material on a range of special models. The idea, according to Edmunds, would be to rebody certain models in carbon fiber as a sort of in-house coachbuilding operation for discerning customers looking for something a little different from what the neighbors in the next mansion or ivory tower over have in their gold-paved driveway.

Consumer Reports joins lawsuit against DOT over backup cameras

Consumer Reports joins lawsuit against DOT over backup cameras

Consumer Reports' Consumers Union has joined in a lawsuit filed by Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, Kids and Cars, Greg Gulbransen, M.D., and Susan Auriemma against the US Department of Transportation, over the department's failure to implement a rule mandating backup cameras in new cars and trucks. As part of 2008's Cameraon Gulbransen Kids Transportation Safety Act, the DOT was ordered, by law, to come up with rear-visibility standards for new vehicles. In 2010, the DOT proposed mandating backup cameras, but since that proposal, the effort has stalled, with the original 2011 deadline pushed back multiple times.

I have a problem that you might share. I love music and enjoy creating my own songs, but I'm not very good at playing any instrument. I get all excited about learing to play something and then get frustrated when it takes too long to master it. If only there was an instrument that you could play without knowing anything about music and that no matter what you played on it, it sounded good. If only… Guess what? There is such an instrumet. It's The McNally Strumstick.

Microsoft: Don't Expect Indie Games For Xbox One Until 2014

One of the great things about indie games is that people, for the most part, do not have much expectations going in which leads to pretty pleasant surprises, or nasty shocks. In any case if you're a fan of indie games and you're looking forward to the next big thing on the Xbox One, it looks like you will have to wait at least until 2014 before you see any indie titles published for the console. This is according to Microsoft's corporate vice president, Phil Harrison, who spoke to the folks at Games Industry International.

Microsoft Surface 2 hands-on (video)

If you're new to the whole Surface thing, and just thinking of getting your first Windows tablet, you'll probably be able to appreciate how thin and light the Surface 2 is. But you'll probably appreciate it even more if you own one of the first-gen models: the tablet is lighter than we remember it being, and there's just generally less of it to hold onto. We didn't need to do a side-by-side comparison with the original to notice how much lighter the tablet has gotten; it's easier to hold and feels less bulky too. Still, you might want to do a side-by-side comparison to appreciate the jump in resolution.

The Nissan Xterra might not be long for this world, according to a report from Edmunds. The rugged SUV, which has always been a bit more of a hardcore, purpose-built vehicle than the rest of the Nissan SUV range. But it has also suffered from slowing sales, low fuel economy relative to the competition and general neglect, as Nissan has focused on other offerings in its range. "There are plans to replace it, there are always plans, (but) I am not sure it will happen. I would say in the next six months to a year," Pierre Loing, vice president of product planning for Nissan Americas told Edmunds.
