Microsoft's ‘Locationgate' ends with Mango

. Microsoft has updated its Windows Phone platform to address what is now presumed to have been a bug that caused phones to gather location data before a user opted in to such services. Windows Phone developer Rafael Rivera last week revealed that Microsoft's mobile platform was exhibiting behavior that directly contradicted earlier claims the company made to the United States government. Microsoft's new “Mango” update, however, appears to have remedied the matter.

. There's something inherently satisfying about using a blunt force object for its exact purpose, be it ripping the cover off a baseball with a Louisville Slugger or bonking one of those animatronic pop-up varmints with a rubber mallet at the local arcade. At the opposite end of the spectrum, there's something equally satisfying about using a precise tool designed for an exact purpose, be it a Montblanc pen or a pickle fork. With the introduction of its 2012 Chevrolet Caprice PPV, General Motors is betting that law enforcement customers are willing to trade-in the former brand of satisfaction for the latter.

Virgin Mobile Officially Announces the LG Optimus Slider, $199.99 Starting Oct. 17th

Sprint and Virgin Mobile have formally announced that the LG Optimus Slider is headed for the PAYG carrier. They’re calling this the second generation of the LG Optimus V and as its name suggests it has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard (we’ve been hearing about this one for quite some time, though we didn’t know if it’d be going to Sprint or Virgin Mobile). Virgin will be carrying the device starting October 17th for $200, but that launch is online only. The following are launch dates for other retailers and Sprint themselves:

Oct. 31 in Best Buy and RadioShack stores; Nov. 6 at Target; and Nov.

. Are you always away from home and constantly finding yourself coming up with lots of musical ideas and songs when doodling with your guitar. Most of the time you want to record those ideas down, but don't have the necessary tools to do it. You can't possibly carry your laptop with you all the time, since it's not very practical. You would use your phone, but the built-in microphone doesn't do justice to your song, not to mention the amount of background noise that gets picked up with it as well.
What do you do then? Well, the folks over at Sonoma Wire Works have come up with a solution.

Well, HP does whatever they like and they don't give a fuck what you think, or so the new CEO doesn't. ZTE Smart Tab 10 makes its way through FCC with Vodafone branding

Just three days ago, the ZTE Smart Tab 7 strolled through the FCC, flashing a Google-branded tramp stamp, and now its older sibling, the Smart Tab 10, is following suit. The probable 10-incher isn't revealing a whole lot, but it does have the same Bluetooth, WiFi and 3G logos riding on its lower back. It's also sporting what looks to be a back-facing camera in the upper-right corner, just like little sis. What's more, this filing lists the tablet as the Vodafone Smart Tab 10, which further confirms our suspicions that this and the Smart Tab 7 are the same Honeycomb tablets announced by the carrier at IFA.

Here in the United States, banks rely on privately-contracted security services to move large quantities of money from one secure location to another. These armed guards roll around our cities in the urban equivalent of wheeled tanks, complete with heavy armor, tires that can't be flattened and enough bulletproof glass to make the president seriously consider trading in The Beast for something with a little more flair.
