The Mutewatch

The Mutewatch

Wrist watches today may no longer be as essential as they were before. People now have other ways to tell time via their other essential devices such as smartphones, media players and even tablets. What may still make wrist watches relevant is that they are worn more as a fashion statement nowadays. That is the very reason why unique looking watches like the Mutewatch are becoming more and more appealing.
The Mutewatch is simple and yet offers more unique features in terms of design and function. For some it may look like just a unique looking bracelet since it ordinarily just has a blank screen where the time should have been displayed.

Next Subaru WRX previewed by Advanced Tourer concept

There was nary a peep of discontent about the looks of the Subaru Advanced Tourer concept revealed at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show. But when everyone was clamoring for Scooby to transfer the Advanced Tourer's looks to a production vehicle, never once did people ask for that transfer to be foisted on the WRX. A report in Motor Trend, though, says that's what's happening: the concept “was actually an early look at the next-generation Subaru WRX.”.

Google's latest Gmail tweaks bring contact info to search results, enhanced Circle integration

By any means, this is certainly far from being one of the biggest changes Gmail's ever seen — still, it's one that's likely to make a few tasks a wee bit easier for you. Inside the recent tweaks, Google added a new quick access trait that makes contact details — such as phone numbers — show up automatically in search results within your cherished G inbox. Additionally, the Android-maker has improved the Google+ integration (again), now allowing folks to narrow down conversations from specific Circles in the search box.

The future is definitely worth looking forward to – after all, if we cannot look into the future with optimism, there is very little reason to have the will to survive and make the most out of today. Microsoft knows this, which is why they are future forward and brimming with enthusiasm about meeting what lies ahead with a can-do attitude. Claiming that “advances in touch, 3D and HD display technologies” have resulted in a whole new world of possibilities, these technologies have certainly done their bit to change the way we watch movies as well as snap photos.

Being open could close the door on Android

Being open could close the door on Android

. While I may recommend the iPhone to the majority of people who ask, Android is still my mobile operating system of choice. Google has created a truly amazing and innovative platform, and because it is open-source anyone can tweak it and customize it. Even devices that weren't meant for Android, such as my HP TouchPad, can run the mobile OS beautifully thanks to dedicated third-party developers. As I spend more and more time with an iPhone, however, I realize that my love for open-source is slowly beginning to fade.

HTC J will be available on May 25

The HTC J will be available from KDDI au in Japan on May 25. So it will be in stores throughout Japan exactly one week from now. The HTC J is basically a slightly modified version of the internationally-sold One S, tailor-made for Japan's second-largest carrier. The HTC J has support for WiMax, Japanese mobile wallet services, mobile TV, and has an IR port. All of these features are different from the One S (as is the J's design).

However, in all other respects the two phones are identical on the inside.

LG Eclipse 4G LTE caught with removable battery and NFC capability

Remember the LG LS970 that we talked about last week, where it came with a quad-core processor as well as a 4.7″ display. Well, it seems that additional details concerning the LG LS970, also known as the LG Eclipse 4G LTE, has surfaced, where it will come with a removable battery (which is always a good thing, since those who tend to do a whole lot of traveling can always bring along another spare battery just in case there is no power outlet nearby to juice up the smartphone) as well as support for Google Wallet – meaning, it will boast NFC compatibility.

Greenpeace invades Apple's headquarters

Greenpeace invades Apple's headquarters

Earlier this morning, Greenpeace launched a full offensive against Apple's Cupertino headquarters. First, in the middle of the night, they projected messages onto the main façade of Infinite Loop. Later, they placed an Apple-branded pod right on the door, inside Apple's property. You can see the pod in this image. Inside the pod there were two people wearing “iPhone costumes.” O course - when you protest against Apple it's either that or spinning rainbow beach ball costumes.

Their whining didn't last long. Cupertino's police came into the scene and arrested them.

Acura recalling over 52,000 TL sedans over power steering hose

Acura is recalling 52,615 TL sedans from the 2007 and 2008 model years. The problem: a faulty power steering hose that could, over time, deteriorate and develop a fluid leak. According to the automaker's official statement, a leaky power steering hose "could lead to loss of power steering assistance or, if it leaks onto a catalytic converter it may result in smoke, or in the worst case, fire." Acura states that no crashes, injuries or fires have been reported because of this issue.

Bugatti Veyron, Lexus LFA, McLaren MP4-12C and Lambo Aventador in 1x4-mile shootout... who wins?

Automobile Magazine scribe Jason Cammisa was sent into the desert to referee four carbon-fiber-bodied wild animals fighting it out over the quarter mile: the V8 McLaren MP4-12C, the V10 Lexus LFA, the V12 Lamborghini Aventador and the W16 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport. It's a tough job, innit. The Head 2 Head race was run elimination style, with the winner of each two-up challenge facing the next devil up the totem pole. Although you might not have any doubts about the eventual victor, how each of these supercars fared is good watching.

In Insert Coin, we look at an exciting new tech project that requires funding before it can hit production. If you'd like to pitch a project, please send us a tip with "Insert Coin" as the subject line. A crawling robot that, at the touch of a button, curls up into a wheel and rolls away sounds a bit Robots in Disguise, doesn't it. Still, that's what roboticist Toby Baumgartner needs your cold, hard cash to build. Two balls, one hand. In this case, that's a definite yes, although the end result is much more appropriate for all ages. Furthering our slow creep towards engineering's Uncanny Valley, comes a cybernetic effort out of Japan's Chiba University that's made to mock our most precious clown-past time: juggling. The one-armed, three-fingered robot, shown off at the 2012 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, utilizes a high-speed camera to track a ball's flight at 500fps and help coordinate its repetitive movements with eerie precision.
