US Cellular announced on Wednesday that it will increase its LTE network coverage by 30 new markets on November 5th. If George Lucas was not rich enough, he sure is now. The Walt Disney Company has announced that it is acquiring Lucasfilm Ltd, which is currently 100-percent-owned by the Star Wars creator, for $4.05 billion in cash and stocks. The deal will include the rights for both Star Wars and Indiana Jones film franchises, as well as other Lucasfilm properties like Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound.

There are more land speed record categories than we care to count, but the minds at Diesel Power recently tackled one of the more interesting and obscure titles in the realm: the record for the fastest vehicle towing a trailer. Scientists from the Imperial College London were able to develop an ultra-sensitive sensor that will allow doctors to detect the early stages of diseases with their naked eye. The newly developed sensor, which is still a prototype, is reportedly ten times more sensitive than the current methods today. This allows doctors to detect the onset of diseases such as prostate cancer and other virus infections, and even HIV. Essentially, the sensor works by analyzing serum, a protein-rich liquid that separates when blood coagulates. Positive and negative reactions can then be viewed easily by the naked eye.

Here's a great use of time-lapse photography to show a side of aviation that is rarely seen. This is a procession of jumbo jets (B747, A340, B777) flying into Heathrow airport in London. Since it's a time-lapse video, it's sped up 17x faster than normal, and as a result you see the jets jumping in a way that doesn't inspire confidence (although flying is actually very safe). Also, the moving clouds in the background give you a sensation of a constantly moving camera. It's hypnotic, and I never before realized to what extent that planes line up to land.

RH Motorsports to produce street-legal Ford GT racecars

RH Motorsports liked the look of the Matech GT1 so much, they bought all of the company's molds, engineering and complete bodywork for its GT3 race car. With that already-developed knowledge, RH plans to manufacture 20 turnkey, street legal GT1-S cars. Prototypes of the GT3-S (white in photo above) and GT1-S (silver) were rolled out recently at the annual Ford GT rally at NOLA Motorsports.
The RH crew is teaming up with GT Guy LLC for the build. They will start with a run-of-the-mill(?!) Ford GT and widen the front track four inches.

IIHS says booster seats are getting better, releases 2012 report

The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety has released its latest booster seat test results which show seat makers are more than ever designing better products. The agency looked at 17 booster seats newly introduced for 2012. All but two of those have been added to the list of Best Bet booster seats which now totals 47.

LG looks towards webOS Smart TV

Smart TVs are starting to creep into our living rooms slowly but surely, thanks to a decent Internet connection that has made its way into just about every single home. LG, for instance, is said to debut a new Smart TV that will run on the now defunct webOS. No idea on just how LG intends to go around implementing a webOS-powered Smart TV, as it sure as heck is a whole lot harder to develop compared to what we hear on paper.
