Samsung loses court battle with Apple in Korea

Samsung loses court battle with Apple in Korea

Recently, Apple brought Samsung to court in the US alleging patent infringement and it ruled in its favor. After the loss abroad, Samsung experienced another loss on home turf - this time in a suit the Korean company itself has filed. Filed in late 2011, the lawsuit alleged Apple had infringed on Samsung patents related to SMS display and grouping methods. Samsung was seeking a sales ban for the iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and even the iPhone 5, which at that time was a year away from announcement.

Although the court sided with Apple, Samsung has stated that it will review the ruling before committing to an appeal.

Sprint's Moto X now getting Android 4.4 KitKat (13.11.3Q2.X-69-3-8)

Sprint's Moto X seems to be receiving an upgrade today, but it doesn't look like your typical bug fixer and maintenance release. We're hearing murmurings that this thing is full-on KitKat, with all the great changes folks have been enjoying on other versions of the Moto X for a few weeks now. Sprint's Moto X already received the upgrade in the form of a Soak Test, but that went out to a very limited group of users.

Charity supercar run results in 3 Lamborghinis going up in flames

A charity drive in Singapore went quite awry when a convoy of Lamborghinis smashed into each other on one of the city-state's highways, with one of the cars catching fire. And while it's easy to assume that the supercars were at fault, initial reports contradict that assumption. It turns out the crash was a chain reaction set off by a local driver swerving toward two Gallardos and an Aventador, sending the latter into the guard rail and causing it to go up in flames.

Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 Review

Amazon announced their latest Kindle Fire tablets, the Kindle Fire HDX, earlier this fall as two separate devices running on either a 7-inch display or a slightly larger 8.9-inch display. One of the main selling points of the Kindle Fire HDX is its exclusive HDX display, which offers a 323PPI on the 7-inch model and 339PPI on the 8.9-inch model. As you probably could tell, we'll be taking a look at the 8.9-inch version of the Kindle Fire HDX in our review, which has many of the same internal specs as its smaller 7-inch sibling does.

Tax The Rich goes slow-mo with a Ferrari F50

What is it about slow-motion video that makes everything so much cooler. Whether it's as simple as slapshot during a hockey game or as complex as a hypercar, filming in slow motion adds a new sense of depth, technicality and beauty to the subject. That's especially true when the video in question includes a rare Ferrari F50 and the team from Tax The Rich. One Autoblog staffer called it "mesmerizing" the first time he watched it, and we're certainly inclined to agree. The F50 has never been a very pretty car, but in this setting, it's somehow incredibly compelling, as it drifts around a corner and does donuts at an agonizingly slow pace.

There is no shortage of distractions inside cars these days, but one new study suggests that the biggest drain on a driver's attention might not be what you think. According to The Telegraph, the Monash University Accident Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia has shown that children – not telephones – are more likely to distract people while driving. For three weeks, the study followed 12 families with children ranging in ages ranging from one to eight. Using four cameras inside of the vehicles, researchers determined that out of 92 trips, a driver was distracted 90 times.

Chromebooks – hate them or love them, they do seem destined to stay. In fact, we ourselves have had taken a close look at several Chromebooks in greater detail in the past, having reviewed the Chromebook Pixel, the Samsung Chromebook Series 3, and the Samsung Chromebook Series 5. Having said that, Chromebooks might not end up in the same vein of best sellers such as the iPad, but it does seem to be a niche market that is picking up steam. Google has decided to make several optimizations to Chrome OS in order to keep up with the times, and that would include making touch actions a whole lot more simple and intuitive.

Thanks to Kineticane LLC, the Isowalk smart walking stick is supposedly capable of adapting itself to its user. Microsoft Reportedly Increasing Windows Phone OTA Downloads To 100MB

When it comes to OTA downloads, most mobile operating systems will place a cap on the download to prevent users from accidentally exceeding the data cap allotted to them by their carriers. For iOS the limit has been increased to 100MB with iOS 7 (originally from 20MB), and it looks like Microsoft's Windows Phone platform will soon be getting an increase in its cap as well. This is according to several reports where some users have claimed that their OTA limit has since been raised to 100MB as well, although this does not appear to be widespread yet. This isn't the first time Microsoft increased their OTA cap.

Honda CR-Z carbon-fiber prototype

Honda CR-Z carbon-fiber prototype

When Honda rolled out the CR-Z a few years ago, it hoped to bridge the gap between those who would save the planet and those who would rather burn all of its resources in a glorious cloud of tire smoke. But enthusiasts recalling the CRX of 1980s vintage balked, imploring Honda to ditch the heavy battery packs and electric motors in favor of a lighter-weight, more conventional powertrain. At this point it seems less likely that Honda would do so at one end of the market than Porsche would ditch the hybrid component of its 918 Spyder at the other. But that doesn't mean Honda isn't still cooking up ways to curb the CR-Z's weight.

If you drop $100,000 on a luxury sedan, it seems only reasonable to receive some preferential treatment at the dealership you purchased from. For Mercedes-Benz, those benefits have apparently been lacking relative to the German brand's luxury competitors. Critiquing The Vietnamese Government On Social Media Could Lead To Fines/Arrests

In most countries, using social media as a means to voice your displeasure of the government and/or policies is accepted and considered legal to a certain extent, but it seems that there are countries where it is not allowed, and Vietnam is one of them. This new law was announced this week and will see citizens arrested and fined if they were to post on social media where they criticize the government. While the law itself is fairly vague (perhaps purposely so), it states that it will punish those who use social media to spread propaganda against the state or spread reactionary ideologies.

Ford won't be releasing GT500 lap times for the 'Ring, or any other car

Trucks have towing capacity, EVs have driving range and performance cars have Nürburgring lap times. What do all three have in common. They should all be taken with a grain of salt. Currently, there is no sanctioned way to record lap times or verify production-spec cars – a lesson we recently learned with the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo – and until there is a way to do so (and there probably never will be), we'll never officially know the actual time it took for Ford to lap the 'Ring with its ultra-powerful Shelby GT500.

AdDuplex: Nokia controls 90% of Windows Phone market

AdDuplex: Nokia controls 90% of Windows Phone market

Nokia – or rather Microsoft – now owns 90% of the Windows Phone market. The numbers are from the latest AdDuplex report and reveal other interesting facts of the WP landscape. That the Nokia Lumia 520 accounts for over a quarter of all Windows Phone devices should come as no surprise. That Windows Phone 7 devices account for another quarter, however, is surprising.

We keep careful track of outdated Android versions, but it's worth keeping in mind that WP7 devices will never see Windows Phone 8. Is WP7 the Gingerbread of Windows Phone?

Anyway, back to the Lumia 520.

Battlefield 4 Battlepack Print Plated In Gold Will Cost You $2,500

We know that there are times when in-game items can be worth a lot of money in real life, and we have seen instances where MMORPG accounts, such as World of Warcraft, have been sold for a few hundred dollars. However what you are paying for is something you can actually use, like a new weapon, a new armor set, and etc., but would you ever pay $2,500 for a gold battlepack from Battlefield 4. Actually to be more specific, would you pay that much money for a rendering of the battlepack that you can't actually use in game. Because that's what art dealers Cook & Becker are selling.
