Moto X said to get a price drop to $100 in Q4 this year

Motorola's latest and greatest Moto X has generally been lauded by everyone for its unique customizable colors and performance but the $200 price tag on contract has often raised questions, especially considering you get much more powerful smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One for the same price. It seems Motorola is aware of this and is planning a price drop in the near future. evleaks has revealed that the Moto X will be getting a price drop in Q4 this year and will drop down to $100 on a contract.

Bangle urges auto design shakeup, says industry not innovating

Controversial designer Chris Bangle, the man behind the notorious E65 BMW 7-Series "Bangle Butt," has some rather sharp criticism for the current crop of automotive designers in an upcoming full-length interview with Automotive News Europe. The preview, posted on Automotive News, details parts of the interview, with the always vocal Bangle lamenting the state of modern automotive design. "Even concept cars today simply anticipate the next production model coming down the line. Is this innovation? No.

Martian Watches G2G smart watch review

Smart watches are the big topic lately, with rumors of various companies supposedly releasing their version at any moment now.  If you don't want to wait, there are some smart watches already on the market.  (You can see reviews done here at The Gadgeteer of some smart watches in the related links at the bottom of this review.)  I like the idea of a smart watch, but I hadn't seen anything that really grabbed my attention until I saw the Martian Watches.  They started their life as a Kickstarter project, but I didn't learn of them until after they were already successfully funded.  I love the retro look of these watches.

Hyundai i20 WRC gets shakedown in Finland

Hyundai i20 WRC gets shakedown in Finland

It's always a good day when we get to post a video about rally racing. It's even better when that video is of a new WRC competitor undergoing testing. This spy video shows Hyundai's i20 WRC, a car that debuted nearly one year ago at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. It's set to usher in Hyundai's return to top-flight motorsports, and will do battle with the cars from Citroen, Ford and Volkswagen that are currently contesting the 2013 season.
This video, which shows the i20 testing on the notoriously tough Finnish rally stages, gives the impression that progress on the new WRC contender is going well.

Speaking of tablets, this week's Distro takes a close look at the XO Tablet, the latest offering from the pioneering One Laptop Per Child group. While OLPC has done wonders to advance public discourse about the importance of bringing technology to underserved children in the developing world, the company hasn't always been successful with its actual products. And, as Brian Heater points out in his review, the XO Tablet, designed for mainstream first-world consumers, is something of a disappointment.

Toyota drops detail about 414-hp Hybrid-R concept powertrain

The Toyota Yaris Hybrid-R Concept has been teased already, offering up little glimpses and details of the Frankfurt-bound vehicle. And while those few, shadowy shots have been great, we've really wanted to know how this hatchback would deliver its promised 400-plus horsepower. Under hood sits a 1.6-liter, race-derived, direct-injection, turbocharged four-cylinder that powers the front wheels. Sounds peachy, but with 414 horsepower splashed across the page, we're going to need something more than a 1.6-liter, turbo four.

T-Mobile Moto X might only be available through the Google Play Store according to leak

While the Moto X officially launched last week on AT&T and today on Verizon Wireless, there are still many questions left unanswered in regards to Moto X availability remaining carriers like Sprint and T-Mobile. When it comes to T-Mobile, we may have a little more info on where customers will be able to purchase the device and oddly enough, it appears it wont be through retail stores, or direct from Motorola. TmoNews managed to grab this internal screenshot from T-Mobile, showing that the X might only be available through the Google Play Store where it mentions the device will only be “sold by Google”.

Galaxy Note 3 display leaked, side-by-side comparison with Note 2 shows smaller bezels, accessories begin popping up

As we near Samsung's official Galaxy Note 3 unveiling event set for Sept 4th in Berlin, more leaks of the device have begun coming out of the woodwork. First up, the actual display/digitizer of the device has been pictured from 3rd party parts supplier ETrade Supply, giving us a good look at, not only the shape of the upcoming phablet, but also a quick comparison with the previous Galaxy Note 2. You'll notice a much more rectangular shape this time around, while the Note 3 still very much falls in line with Samsung's current Galaxy design cues.

Skype Looks Into 3D Calling System

Skype Looks Into 3D Calling System

It does seem as though the world is moving towards a 3D environment where computers and consoles are concerned, but some like the recently announced Nintendo 2DS is taking a step back by doing away with 3D support. Skype, however, looks in the opposite direction by working on a possible 3D calling system, according to Mark Gillett, Microsoft's corporate vice president for Skype. Bought a Nexus 4 on or after August 12th? Google's offering you a $100 refund

Yesterday, Google made the best value in smartphones even more cheap — they dropped the price of the Nexus 4 by $100 for both models. That effectively made the Nexus 4 $200 for the 8GB model and $250 for 16GB. The problem? Some folks who just bought a Nexus might not be happy about that. Thankfully, Google did something they really didn't have to — they're giving folks a chance to get $100 back.

Sony changes form and future of mirrorless cameras plus three new lenses

Sony changes form and future of mirrorless cameras plus three new lenses

A New Sony DSLR camera was announced today – but hold on, it only "looks" like a DSLR.  The Sony A3000 is actually an E-mount mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera cloaked as a DSLR.  If you want a mirrorless that has a wrap-your-fingers-around proper DSLR-type handgrip, this might be an interesting choice.  The specs look pretty good, but definitely shout strictly entry-level lightweight body.  One of the biggest advantages I see for this Sony is the remarkably low price tag of $399.  Yep, $399.  If the image quality pans out, Sony could make a real dent in the entry level DSLR market.

NHTSA upgrades Corvette headlight investigation

NHTSA upgrades Corvette headlight investigation

It's looking more and more likely that we'll be seeing a recall of certain sixth-generation Corvettes, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has upgraded its initial investigation to an engineering analysis, the final stage before the Feds can request a full-on recall. The problems, which we first reported on back in May, had to do with headlights that would randomly cut out for some 2005 to 2007 Chevrolet Corvette models. NHTSA has received 95 complaints from owners of random headlight failures, while The Detroit News states that there have also been four reports from owners of 2008 Vettes.

Make it yourself - Midori Traveler's style leather Moleskine Cahier or Field Notes notebook cover

. A couple years ago I reviewed the Midori Traveler's Notebook and commented that it was too expensive at $60 and that I could easily make one of my own for $20 or less. After I posted that review, I ended up buying all the supplies I needed to make my own covers. The next year I made about 20 of them and sent them as Christmas gifts to all my writers here at The Gadgeteer. The other day someone left a comment on the Midori review asking if I had ever made a cover for less than $20. That question prompted me to write up this short how-to article.
