Android 4.0 Update For RAZR/RAZR MAXX Is Finally Official

After months of leaks and rumors, it looks like the Android 4.0.4 update for the Motorola DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX is finally official. We don’t have an official press release from Verizon, but all the details can be found on Motorola’s official site, complete with walkthrough videos highlighting all the new features users will be able to take advantage of with Ice Cream Sandwich. I don’t even personally own the device, but I honestly couldn’t be happier for you guys. The 6.16.211 update isn’t exactly being pushed out over-the-air just yet, but we’d expect that should change in the coming days.

Kickstarter pledges more transparency, publishes project stats page with daily updates

Every time we boot up a browser there appears to be a new iPad mount or Arduino project on Kickstarter, but just how many projects have there been to date. How many were successful. And how much might that microfunding startup be netting in commission cash. You can find all those answers through a new Kickstarter stats page (and some number crunching on a calculator), updated daily with key raw data that's tallied, and broken up by category as well. To date, 60,786 projects have launched, of which 24,986 (44 percent) were successfully funded, 31,722 failed and 4,078 are currently active on the site.

AT&T: Samsung Galaxy S III pre-orders should arrive by June 25

Yesterday a change in shipping dates on AT&T's Samsung Galaxy S3 pre-order page informed us that the handset's launch would be experiencing delays. Today, the carrier has chimed in with official word on the matter. The bad news. Some of those awaiting the arrival of their pre-orders will most definitely be waiting a few extra days. The good news? Phones are expected to arrive no later than June 25th for the initial batch of early reservations, three days sooner than the June 28th date suggested on AT&T's site.

AT&T, like others, is citing “manufacturer supply constraints” as the reason behind the delays.

We still can’t be sure exactly when Ice Cream Sandwich will officially arrive for the Motorola DROID BIONIC, but if a newly leaked build is any indication the day of reckoning could be coming soon. Discovered by P3Droid, the latest ROM is built around Android 4.0.4 and so far is running pretty smoothly for those that have installed it. This is a good sign that may indicate Motorola and Verizon are nearing the end of development for the upgrade. Even better, those wishing to get their feet wet won’t even need oodles of Android hacking knowledge to do so.

Starcraft 2 will be updated with a “Restart from Replay” feature

One of the joys of playing Starcraft and Warcraft III was its LAN feature. This allowed players to play multiplayer games over a local network, as opposed to having to log onto Battle.net. Unfortunately while Starcraft 2 opted not to include a LAN feature, Blizzard has announced that they will be introducing a "Restart from Replay" feature. This basically allows Starcraft 2 gamers to quicksave multiplayer matches in the event that something goes wrong, i.e. disconnections, computer problems, etc. Players will then be able to reload from the last save point and continue their game.

If you'd rather your kid not spend his/her entire summer staying at home playing video games or hanging out at the mall, how about sending them to filmmaking camp. Yup that's right, it seems that Apple has recently announced that they will be offering free filmmaking summer camps to children who are aged 8-12 at their retail outlets. These kids will be taught how to use Apple's own video editing software such as iMovie and GarageBand to put together their own videos. It is expected to kick off on the 23rd of July and will extend through late August for some locations, and will consist of two 90 minute weekday sessions.

New Duke camera could change photography and surveillance landscapes

New Duke camera could change photography and surveillance landscapes

The scientists over at Duke University have managed to work on an experimental camera which basically enables one to zoom in on portions of photos that have been shot in a high degree of detail. This might just change the way images are viewed after they are captured. This new camera is said to be able to collect over 30 times as much picture data compared to even the best consumer digital devices in the market at the moment. Current cameras will be able to capture photos that have pixel counts which number in the tens of millions, while the Duke device, as it is known, is capable of producing a still or video image with a billion pixels.

And when we say “merely” it is no slight to the LG Optimus LTE 2. But It has been confirmed that the LG D1L, a name that has popped up from time to time with claims that it would launch as a competitor to the Galaxy S III this spring, is in fact the followup to last year's Optimus LTE. Turns out original rumors were spot on, citing a 4.7-inch HD display, dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and LTE capabilities. And it managed to launch right under our noses while we were left wondering what happened to the D1L.

Well, we came away from the Windows Phone Summit with our interest piqued in a good way – it seems that good times are ahead of Windows Phone platform supporters after seeing just what Microsoft has done to it in their laboratories. The final product of Windows Phone 8 is shaping up to look pretty good, but here are some essentials that you ought to take note. For starters, Windows Phone 8 WILL NOT run on current devices, while the Windows Phone 7.8 update will offer the brand new Start experience that we talked about in our Windows Phone 8 Preview.

Ford tempers expectations of improvement in J.D. Power quality survey

Technology can be a fickle thing for automotive companies. Done right, tech can help sell cars. Done badly, and tech can sink a whole company's image. Ford is battling just that problem. Its Sync tech has certainly contributed to healthy sales recently, but customers started to complain with the buggy advent of the MyFord Touch and MyLincoln Touch systems.

An update for the system back in March promised to fix the annoying restarts, the slow responses and the underwhelming voice control.

Apple is a company that hedges their bets, and do not put all of their eggs in a single basket, which is definitely a wise thing to do, since one should spread the manufacturing “risk” (and squeeze costs with some vendor-balancing) all around just in case something goes awry. Apple and Liquidmetal hug it out, lengthen their pact until 2014

The deal between Apple and Liquidmetal was originally supposed to be a short-term fling. Technically, it expired in February this year, less than two years after the couple first met. There must have been a spark, as the two have just decided to extend their licensing deal through to February 2014. Of course, simply having a deal isn't the same as putting it to use, and there's no certainty that we'll see anything exotic materialize out of it: the last time Liquidmetal's extra-sturdy alloy was used in an Apple product, it wound up in a SIM card ejector tool.

LinkedIn gets sued over recent hacking scandal

Earlier this month, we wrote about LinkedIn's password hashes that have been reportedly posted on a hacking forum in Russia. Now it appears that the giant social network for professionals will be facing the federal court for the mishap. A class action lawsuit has been filed by a premium-paying LinkedIn customer Katie Szpryka who said that the company did not do enough to safeguard its users' digitally stored personal information, including email addresses, passwords, and login credentials. The complaint was filed in San Jose where Szpryka accused LinkedIn of failing to use industry-standard protocols to protect the information.

Certain locations are inexorably intertwined with the cars produced there - so much so that we use the city's name to refer to the automakers that call it home. Maranello is synonymous with Ferrari. Dearborn with Ford. Wolfsburg with Volkswagen. And Crewe with Bentley.
