Zorro Macsk review: Adding touchscreen gestures to an iMac in 10 seconds [video]

. Steve Jobs once said that touchscreen Macs wouldn't make any sense because your arm would quickly become fatigued from holding it up in the air to poke the screen. So when Chinese company TMDTouch revealed its Zorro Macsk (that's not a typo) that claimed to be capable of adding multitouch gestures to an iMac with mere plug and play functionality, my interest was piqued. Rather than add a touchscreen panel on top of the iMac, the Zorro Macsk uses infrared technology to track finger input.

Watch the entire 30-minute Urban Outlaw documentary

Earlier this year we had the pleasure of sharing with you a short film called Urban Outlaw, which detailed some of the life and cars of iconoclastic Porschephile Magnus Walker. The original three-minute film, by director Tamir Moscovici, was impeccably shot and well worth your time if you are even the slightest bit interested in old 911s. The small project gained enough momentum to turn in to a larger one, it seems, and Moscovici's short video has now given life to a 30-minute film. The fuller version of Urban Outlaw debuted at the Raindance Film Festival in London, and is now available to watch from the comfort of your own computer.

The future of higher education: reshaping universities through 3D printing

Featuring four towering limestone columns and classic Flemish-bond brickwork, the century-old Mackay School of Mines Building at the University of Nevada, Reno, has long served as a bastion of Silver State history. Named after Irish immigrant and "Comstock Lode King" John Mackay, notable touches such as a cast bronze statue designed by Mount Rushmore sculptor Gutzon Borglum just outside the building helped it earn a spot in the National Register of Historic Places. Within its oak doors, however, are the makings of an intriguing experiment that's decidedly more new school.

Apple boots Java out of browsers in OS X update

Apple boots Java out of browsers in OS X update

Normally, java, a popular term used to describe coffee, is taken to give its drinker a "kick" due to the properties of caffeine that coffee beans carry. The thing is, the programming language Java has been given the boot instead of being the one doing the kicking with the latest OS X update from Apple. In plain English, Java has been kicked out of all Mac-compatible browsers should you apply the latest OS X update. For OS X users who applied the update, bear in mind that you will need to also perform a reinstall of Oracle's version of Java should you want to run Java applets in your Web browser.

Choosing a Broadband Provider

Choosing a Broadband Provider

Selecting a decent broadband service can be something of a minefield. There are several providers currently on the market and they all offer different packages. A customer must have a clear idea of the services that are needed before making a choice. There are some key points that must be taken into consideration if the broadband is to deliver what is required of it.
The first decision to make is whether to choose a traditional land-based system or a fibre-optic provider. Fibre-optic broadband usually delivers the fastest download speeds; however, it is not always available in certain areas.

Colombia to start testing 700MHz LTE, joins a Latin American trend in 4G

Those in the US can brag about having the range, indoor friendliness and other advantages of 700MHz LTE, but few other countries have that edge so far: Latin Americans who have any LTE at all usually have to contend with less tolerant 2.6GHz bands. Colombia isn't happy with that state of affairs, and its National Spectrum Agency is spearheading a rapidly growing 4G movement in the region by testing 700MHz LTE between the fall and winter. Its strategy echoes proposals from Brazil and Mexico that will use the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity band plan, providing more efficient airwaves as well as wider device and network coverage.
