Acura Concept SUV-X is where brand should be going (video)

Acura Concept SUV-X is where brand should be going (video)

We're not saying Acura should off their Concept SUV-X for sale as-is, we're just saying we'd like to see Acuras that are interesting to look at on the outside, rather than just being packed full of technology on the inside. Revealed at the Shanghai Motor Show, the Concept SUV-X joins other compact high-rollers like the MG CS concept as an entrant for China's compact SUV segment.

BAIC 500 and 900 Concepts look cool, offer little info

Chinese company BAIC showed up to the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show with a pair of concepts, the 500 (above) and 900 (right). And while we don't have much in the way of information about these vehicles from the People's Republic, they're still pretty neat and worthy of some attention. According to CarNewsChina.com, the 500 concept looks to be purely a design study – a sort of homage to the Beijing BJ212 SUV, and it's unclear if this thing will ever see production.

Ford Mondeo with 1.5-liter EcoBoost debuts in China

Does the car above, posing fancifully in white, look familiar. Well, it should. Although it wears Mondeo badges in the form you see above for the Chinese market – as it does in Europe – the car is basically the same thing sold in the US as the Ford Fusion. Of course, it's what's under that shapely skin that counts.
Ford has chosen the Shanghai Motor Show as the venue with which to unveil its 1.5-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine.

Customize your light with the Tetris Stackable LED Desk Lamp

Nearly everyone who's familiar with electronic games has heard of Tetris, and ThinkGeek has capitalized on this to make a nostalgia-inspiring Tetris Stackable LED Desk Lamp. You can customize your lamp into various configurations using the seven interlocking pieces, which are of course, shaped like classic Tetris shapes. The base shape is the four-block straight piece, and any piece put on there will light up in a different color. The lamp plugs into a wall outlet just like any other, and its dimensions are based on how you put together the pieces.

Ford Escort Concept goes back to basics

Ford Escort Concept goes back to basics

Here's the thing about China: The folks buying cars there have a very different set of standards than shoppers in many other markets around the globe. While we all drool over hot metal with bold designs, and while we appreciate automakers going an extra step to inject even their cheapest offerings with aggressive and interesting cues, that sort of sheetmetal sex appeal doesn't always sell in the People's Republic.

Hyundai Mingtu revealed on billboard ahead of Shanghai

Hyundai Mingtu revealed on billboard ahead of Shanghai

The so-called Hyundai Mini-Sonata now has a proper name. Called the Mingtu in China, this new sedan will slot in between the compact Elantra and midsize Sonata, and it sports a pretty nifty look. We've known for a while now that Hyundai is working on a more mature version of its Fluidic styling language, the first fruits of which showed up in the latest Santa Fe, and the Mingtu seems to take that refined appearance to the next level with a refined look of creased lines, a chiseled fascia and a smooth greenhouse.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive (video)

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive (video)

Reading the stats for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive is like looking at the Prada storefront on Rodeo Drive – it is an extravagance tinged with Electrobeam gaudiness that's so far from normal it makes the average viewer declare, "Interesting, but..." before trying to find the stargate back to Earth. It's a shame if the SLS AMG Electric Drive comes off as an otherworldly bauble for the moneyed – most of whom won't appreciate it beyond the early-adopter and top-tenth-of-one-percenter status it confers – because it's almost 2.5 tons of passionately engineered electric fun and optic-smashing vinyl wraps.

Robot Stalks Sharks In The Seven Seas

Robot Stalks Sharks In The Seven Seas

Sharks have certainly received their fair share of negative attention in the past, especially with the success of the film "Jaws" that sent swimmers and beach tourists scampering for a while. Of course, most of us know by now that sharks rarely attack humans, and when they do, it is because us humans on surfboards were mistaken for something else. It is not as though they have a penchant for human flesh like zombies do…and to study sharks in their natural habitat for the long haul can prove to be rather challenging.

Classic SUVs next big thing for car collectors

Classic SUVs next big thing for car collectors

Hagerty Insurance seems to think vintage SUVs are going to be the next big trend in car collecting. The agency has already seen prices begin to tick upward at auction, with the number of classic SUVs insured by the company growing some 65 percent since 2008. That's about twice the pace of the overall market. All told, Toyota Land Cruisers have seen the largest jump with a swell of 202 percent, though 1970s and 1980s Jeep models are up by a more than respectable 93 percent as well.

We know after yesterday's onslaught of Nintendo-related news due to their Nintendo Direct presentation, you're probably filled up on Nintendo stories for the rest of the month. But this is one Nintendo-related story we just couldn't help but pass up. Nintendo announced it would be bundling a special 3DS XL with Animal Crossing: New Leaf on June 9, but Japan seems to be getting a much cooler bundle this summer. The 3DS XL that will be receiving the bundle treatment is completely covered in various silhouettes of everyone's second-favorite Mario brother, Luigi.

Toyota Matrix not long for this world?

Toyota Matrix not long for this world?

According to a report from AutoGuide, Toyota doesn't have plans to replace the aging Matrix hatchback in the United States after this year. If true, the timing coincides with the replacement for the Corolla, on which the Matrix is based, with that car slated to get its first complete redesign since 2006 (2008 in the US market). We'd love to tell you how many Matrix models were sold by Toyota in the United States last year, but the automaker chooses to bundle Matrix sales with Corolla sales, so we have no idea.

Girl Scouts Of Los Angeles Reveals New Video Game Design Badge That Can Be Earned

Yesterday we reported that an iPad app by the name of Hopscotch was launched in beta which supposedly aims to teach children, girls specifically, how to program. Now seemingly by coincidence, it looks like another initiative to get girls into programming has been launched, this time by the Girl Scouts of Great Los Angeles who teamed up with Women In Games International whereby scouts are able to earn a new patch for designing video games, as reported in Girl Gamer.

Subscribers Launch Petition Urging Verizon To Drop Wireless Contracts

T-Mobile recently announced its Un-carrier plans which will not tie the carrier's subscriber to a wireless contract. Soon after that Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam said that they would be willing to drop wireless contracts if subscribers showed interest. Verizon subscribers sure look determined to hold him to his word, they've now launched an online petition urging the carrier to do away with contracts for good. As of this writing the petition has amassed over 74,777 signatures and needs only 223 more to reach its cap.

Stepping Into The Lion's Den With A Big-Hearted Cat. If you're like me – and our demographics suggests you are – you've probably never seen a new Jaguar sportscar at your local showroom. I'm 36, and it hasn't happened in my lifetime. and not by a little bit. Oh, there have been a string of XK coupes and convertibles, and as of late, there have even been some genuine high-performance specials – namely the R, R-S and R-S GT models – but their basis has always been the 2+2 grand tourer shell, not a lighter and smaller footprint with more intrinsic sporting intent.

Is Land Rover developing a Range Rover Sport R?

Is Land Rover developing a Range Rover Sport R?

Our spy photographers believe Land Rover may be hard at work on a new, higher performance version of the company's Range Rover Sport. The creation you see here was spotted hopping around the Nürburgring, complete with a reworked front fascia that boasts larger air inlets. Those intakes could be feeding a more potent driveline with more than the 510 horsepower found in lesser Sport models.

The Saddest Robots in Japan Live Among the Sins of Sony

On the left is Sony's approximately 12-inch (29cm) tall AIBO robotic dog (Artificially Intelligent RoBOt). It went on sale in 1999, and the first run of 3000 sold out in less than an hour. According to their own figures, in total Sony moved about 150,000 AIBOs across 8 product iterations, which is not bad for a US $2000 robot toy. To doggy's right is the approximately 24-inch (60cm) tall android QRIO (Quest for CuRIOsity). This project began in 2000, and while it never went on sale, as a research & demonstration platform it was and remains now one of the world's most advanced bipedal robots.

Intel CEO Charts $200 Starting Price For Future Windows 8 Tablets

Windows 8-powered tablets are not exactly the most popular tablets out there in the market, partly because the platform is still relatively now compared to more established names like Android and iOS, not to mention the number of manufacturers who churn out Windows 8 tablets are few and far in between. Well, this does not mean that Windows 8 tablets will continue to remain obscure, as the right price as well as marketing push might be able to see Windows 8 tablets proliferate the lives of the masses. Intel's CEO, Paul Otellini, said, “If you look at touch-enabled Intel-based notebooks that are ultrathin using [Bay Trail] processors.

BioShock Infinite Player Asks For Refund After Viewing Religiously Offensive Scene

BioShock Infinite Player Asks For Refund After Viewing Religiously Offensive Scene

BioShock Infinite was released three weeks ago with many players completely surprised by not only its story, but also at its ending. We won't get into its story, but there is one moment in the game that was so disturbing for a player, he demanded a refund. [Warning: Slight spoilers ahead which won't ruin the game's story, but it does share an early moment of the game which is necessary to enter Columbia.].
The portion of the game Breen Malmberg found offensive wasn't one of violence, debauchery or the mistreatment of the citizens of Columbia. Instead, it's a scene that occurs early on in the game when you first arrive to Columbia.

Lamborghini-powered Fiat 500 blows our minds

Lamborghini-powered Fiat 500 blows our minds

We suppose that it was fate that eventually someone would take a vintage Fiat 500 and wrap it around a 6.2-liter V12 plucked from a Lamborghini Murcielago. Seeing as how both the 500 and the Murcielago hail from Italy, it was only a matter of time before the two got drunk and made either the best or worst decision of their lives depending on who you ask. Built by Oemmedi Mechanics, the car first bowed at the 2012 Bologna Motor Show, and while the ultra-widebody finished product is barely recognizable as an adorable Cinquecento, there's no mistaking the sound of that wicked V12.

Samsung NX2000 Mirrorless Camera Sighted In FCC Filing

Samsung NX2000 Mirrorless Camera Sighted In FCC Filing

For the past couple of days an alleged picture of the Samsung NX2000 camera has been floating around. It is said to be a mirrorless camera that runs on Tizen OS.  Â Samsung recently released the NX1100 which too is a mirrorless camera and has a 3-inch LCD, 1080p HD video recording, Smart Auto 2.0 and a lot more. The NX2000 is reportedly an iteration belonging to this particular line of cameras from Samsung, and it seems much more plausible now since it has been sighted in FCC filings.
