The report about the iPhone 5 US launch comes courtesy of The New York Times, which claims that a "fairly different" iPhone may launch imminently. In fact, according to them, the much-hyped iPhone 5 launch is "just weeks away". Citing an anonymous Apple employee as the source, NYT reported that the next iPhone may actually launch on October 7. Chances of Apple launching two different iPhones are fairly strong.
